He joined in 2013, and\u00a0said he was \u201cheartbroken and blindsided\u201d by the move at the time. He then revealed earlier this year that he thinks the decision \u201cremains confusing\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Since then, he has been a part of multiple other music projects, including joining Suicidal Tenencies, recording with Fuming Mouth, and joining forces with Canadian group Softcult for a new song \u2018Drown Fountain\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Weinberg has also launched his own new band Portraits of an Apparition, and started work on some solo material.<\/p>\n<p>According to a new interview, however, much of this new music has been quietly in the works for years now, but only just getting released due to legal restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Loyal to the Craft<\/em>, he said the idea for his song with Softcult is something he had been \u201ckicking around since 2013\u201d and most of the other material is \u201cstuff that I\u2019ve been honing for years\u201d.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jay Weinberg: New Father, New Music, New Chapter\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D-6n4LzgFfU?feature=oembed&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad1 id_ad_content-horiz-center\">\n<h5 class=\"taboola-mid-article-title\">Recommended<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<p>Asked why it had taken so long for things to come together, the drummer alluded to restrictions he faced regarding working with other artists. \u201cWithout giving too much attention to any kind of one situation, not having the legal ability to play music with other people was definitely difficult because I look at music, at least the creation and sharing of it, it\u2019s that twofold thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He didn\u2019t clarify where the legal restrictions were coming from in the interview, but did say that while he knew he could collaborate \u201cin private\u201d, he was not legally allowed to release any of the music.<\/p>\n<p>Of the emotional toll the move put on him, he shared: \u201cAlthough I was super intensely focused on one aspect of my creative life and happy to do so, like a little part of my creative self, it was dying for sure because this is stuff that means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are songs that, still even 13 years later after initially coming up with a song, I feel passionate to put the effort into getting it across the finish line and it is emotionally gratifying for me to put out there.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always considered that a healthy thing, to be able to play and create with people of all sorts of disciplines, all sorts of backgrounds and that\u2019s certainly what I\u2019m leaning into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for work on his debut solo album, last November, Weinberg shared the single \u2018Sandstone\u2019 featuring Deafheaven\u2019s George Clarke. We keep exchanging guitar riffs, drum beats, so we are always doing something. We had also some jam sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The metal band have seemingly had another line-up change too, parting ways with keyboardist and DJ Sid Wilson earlier this month after nearly three decades together.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Wilson recently introducing himself as a current member, the band officially confirmed news of the line-up change on Friday (August 14) following weeks of speculation about his status in the group. Their statement read: \u201cEffective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson.
