Before their headline performance, skating legend Tony Hawk took to the stage to introduce them, and share how he first came across their music over two decades ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt is my honour and privilege to introduce you to this band,\u201d Hawk said, adding that he discovered them back when they dropped their debut album \u2018Turn On the Bright Lights\u2019 in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got to see them live for the first time doing a sound check at <em>Jay Leno<\/em>,\u201d he added, referring to their 2004 appearance on the US chat show. \u201cI was a guest on <em>Jay Leno<\/em> with them [and] they actually had my ramp behind the sound stage\u2026 I watch them play \u2018Slow Hands\u2019. They watched me do slow hand plants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hawk continued, saying that he has noticed similarities between their respective careers. \u201cI feel like we\u2019ve had a similar trajectory this whole time. The latter finds the band leaning into the tension between past and future that runs throughout the new record. Speaking to <i>NME<\/i> about the song, frontman Paul Banks said that it was meant to be seen as \u201ca conversation between the human narrator and the future artificial intelligence that\u2019s running things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked in that interview whether or not he fears AI, he responded: \u201cNo. AI replacing art can only base itself on what we\u2019ve made, so without new stuff it will devolve into a simulacra and have no bearing on the human experience. We need to be feeding it new real stuff for it to be doing anything of real note.<\/p>\n<p>The album will also feature \u2018Wings On Fire\u2019, which the band debuted live earlier this year. Before their headline performance, skating legend Tony Hawk took to the stage to introduce them, and share how he first came across their music over two decades ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt is my honour and privilege to introduce you to this band,\u201d Hawk said, adding that he discovered them back when they dropped their debut album \u2018Turn On the Bright Lights\u2019 in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got to see them live for the first time doing a sound check at <em>Jay Leno<\/em>,\u201d he added, referring to their 2004 appearance on the US chat show. \u201cI was a guest on <em>Jay Leno<\/em> with them [and] they actually had my ramp behind the sound stage\u2026 I watch them play \u2018Slow Hands\u2019. They watched me do slow hand plants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hawk continued, saying that he has noticed similarities between their respective careers. \u201cI feel like we\u2019ve had a similar trajectory this whole time. The latter finds the band leaning into the tension between past and future that runs throughout the new record. Speaking to <i>NME<\/i> about the song, frontman Paul Banks said that it was meant to be seen as \u201ca conversation between the human narrator and the future artificial intelligence that\u2019s running things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked in that interview whether or not he fears AI, he responded: \u201cNo. AI replacing art can only base itself on what we\u2019ve made, so without new stuff it will devolve into a simulacra and have no bearing on the human experience. We need to be feeding it new real stuff for it to be doing anything of real note.<\/p>\n<p>The album will also feature \u2018Wings On Fire\u2019, which the band debuted live earlier this year.
