Is there anything more annoying than a creaky saddle? I suppose mountain biking with a crying baby on your back might be worse, but outside of that, a creaky saddle is like fingernails on a chalkboard. The Peaty\u2019s Monarch mountain bike saddle aims to give riders a way to fight back, and this first saddle offering from the brand boasts even more sweet features.<\/p>\n

The Monarch saddle is serviceable<\/h2>\n

If and when the Monarch starts to complain, the saddle is serviceable without needing any special tools. The rails and assembly are attached using 2mm and 3mm hex bolts, making the saddle easy to take apart for cleaning and regreasing as necessary.<\/p>\n

In a release, Peaty\u2019s says the \u201cremovable rails are fully replaceable, allowing damaged or bent rails to be swapped out rather than replacing the entire saddle.\u201d I wasn\u2019t able to find replacement rails listed on the Peaty\u2019s website, so it\u2019s unknown how much they will cost and what their availability will be.<\/p>\n

The rear boasts a handy handle and a scooped shape<\/h2>\n

The Peaty\u2019s Monarch boasts a handle at the rear that the brand says is designed to be used in hike-a-bike situations. We saw a similar handle added to the WTB Rocket<\/a> when it was updated last year, and it\u2019s a genuinely useful feature when loading and unloading bikes too.<\/p>\n

The ramped rear end is another nice design touch, and one that we\u2019ve seen from a few other saddles like the SDG Bel-Air V3 Max<\/a> and WTB Rocket. The idea is that the raised rear end gives riders something to push against when pedaling in a seated position. E-bike riders particularly benefit since they\u2019re more likely to stay seated on steep climbs.<\/p>\n

Saddle specs<\/h2>\n

The 145mm width and 260mm length of the Peaty\u2019s Monarch saddle put it pretty much in the middle of saddle sizes, and the brand says it\u2019s designed to be \u201cone-size-fits-most.\u201d Throne Foam<\/em> padding with a relief channel down the middle promises a blend of support and comfort.<\/p>\n

Buyers can choose titanium ($129) or chromoly ($99) rails, and the Peaty\u2019s Monarch is available in six different colorways<\/a>. At 262g for the chromoly version (240g for ti), the extra hardware and handle don\u2019t seem to add much weight.<\/p>\n
