He was 19.<\/p>\n<p>Reports from Portuguese outlet <i>RTP<\/i> indicate Tarling collided with a vehicle not associated with the race that entered the course against traffic while Tarling was near the back of the race on stage 8 today.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, race organizers described it as a \u201cserious incident\u201d but have not provided more details at this time. They added that they will provide updates \u201cas circumstances allow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Race organizers and Tarling\u2019s NSN Development Team released statements confirming his passing.<\/p>\n<p>We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Finlay Tarling at the Volta a Portugal today,\u201d the team statement said. \u201cFin was a much loved member of our team but most importantly, he was a son, a brother, and a friend to so many. He will be deeply missed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOur deepest condolences go out to Fin\u2019s parents Michael and Dawn, his brother Josh, and everyone who was lucky enough to call Fin a friend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRest in peace, Fin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this time of profound sorrow, the organizers of the Volta a Portugal and the Portuguese Cycling Federation extend their deepest condolences to Finlay Tarling\u2019s family, his teammates, the NSN Development Team, and all his friends and loved ones,\u201d read a statement from the race organizers.<\/p>\n<p>The race was suspended with about 20km remaining, and award ceremonies were canceled.<\/p>\n<p>Tarling was an up and coming racer for the NSN Development Team.
