Draper<\/a>\u2019s difficult season continued as he was dumped out of the first round of the Cincinnati Open at the hands of Martina Landaluce in round one.<\/p>\n<p>The British star has now lost three matches in a row, following his first round defeat at the Canadian Open against Terence Atmane and his exit at the Eastbourne Open to Ugo Humbert.<\/p>\n<p>The star\u2019s injury issues have been well documented, with a reoccurence of his arm bruising keeping him out of Wimbledon earlier this season.<\/p>\n<p>Draper is under illusion about his troubles and he\u2019s suggested the arm target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a>, the British star said: \u201cIt\u2019s the same as last week, the way I\u2019m usually able to fight for every ball and conduct myself, it\u2019s just missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, the conditions and all the things that I\u2019m changing is very hard to manage, but I think from just an internal point of view, it\u2019s a difficult place to be right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s got to a point with me where it\u2019s taken probably one of my biggest qualities, my fighting spirit. There\u2019s a level of chronic pain that\u2019s always with you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019ve got that on your playing arm \u2013 this is my life, this is my career, you know? When you\u2019ve got an injury that is tough to come past and tough to understand, there\u2019s many challenges, there\u2019s many obstacles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jack-draper\">Draper<\/a> has not received a wildcard for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/us-open\">US Open<\/a> yet, so he will very likely have to go through qualifying to get into the last Grand Slam of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying for the Grand Slam takes place at the same time as the US Open Mixed Doubles Challenge, which Draper was set to play alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jessica-pegula\">Jessica Pegula<\/a> again.<\/p>\n<p>The pair reached the semi finals of the tournament last year in its inauguration, where they were defeated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/casper-ruud\">Casper Ruud<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\">Iga Swiatek<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Draper is very likely going to pick qualifying for the US Open, which means Pegula will need to scramble to find a partner if she wants to play the tournament again.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear if Draper will play a tournament before he embarks on his US Open journey, although there is a chance he could play Winston-Salem, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/ATP-Tour\">ATP<\/a> 250 event which takes place between the 23rd and 29th of August.<\/p>\n<p>The US tournament takes place a week prior to the US Open, so it could be a too short of a turnaround for Draper, who has not played two matches in quick succession for nearly two months.<\/p>\n<p><!-- Article End --><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jack Draper says one part of his game is \u2018missing\u2019 due to injury problems Liam McMillen 15 Aug 2026 12:00 PM Jack Draper looks on Jack Draper\u2019s difficult season continued as he was dumped out of the first round of the Cincinnati Open at the hands of Martina Landaluce in round one.
