href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Jannik Sinner<\/a> is not competing at the Cincinnati Open due to a knee injury, and former British No 1 Greg Rusedski thinks this is \u201cconcerning\u201d for the Italian\u2019s 2026 US Open hopes.<\/p>\n<p>After Sinner secured his second Wimbledon title last month, it was revealed that he would miss the Canadian Open for the second straight year.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 1 then announced his withdrawal from the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati and confirmed his right knee has been \u201cbothering\u201d him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati,\u201d the five-time Grand Slam champion said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I\u2019m not ready to compete yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t wait to be back next year and I\u2019m now focusing on getting ready for the US Open.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>ATP Tour News<\/h2>\n<p><a Everybody plays Cincinnati usually, then a week off, then gets ready for New York,\u201d said the former world No 4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, obviously the knee is worse than we think, because originally he said, I\u2019m not going to play in Canada. Everybody was talking about it, \u2018Oh, he can\u2019t win all nine Masters series in the same year. He should be playing.\u2019 And then we find out he has a knee injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, missing Cincinnati means he\u2019s going to have to fly into New York the week before the US Open. If he doesn\u2019t fly in there, say on the Monday at the latest, there\u2019s going to be question marks: will he play?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if [Carlos] Alcaraz and Sinner both don\u2019t play the U S Open, it is wide open. [Novak] Djokovic thinking, \u2018maybe this is my chance to get a 25th,\u2019 [Alexander] Zverev thinking, \u2018maybe I can get my second major.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Ben Shelton, I have to say, was the most impressive American in Canada, and he won the title without dropping a set.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, those guys are kind of in the mix, the two names that everybody\u2019s thinking about \u2014 Djokovic and Zverev \u2014 if you miss the big two, and that would really hurt the final major of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 1997 US Open finalist\u00a0went on to assert that Sinner has \u201cbeen beatable this year\u201d outside of Masters 1000 tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAustralia is different, you have the perfect preparation .You\u2019ve just had six weeks away from the tour, so that\u2019s one of the Slams I throw to the side if you have no preparation,\u201d Rusedski said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew York, that\u2019s a different kettle of fish. There\u2019s very few players that have come into York without at least one week and one tournament before winning the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s been beatable this year outside of the Masters series. Losing in Australia to Novak when he was by far the better player, but he couldn\u2019t convert. Novak showed us why he\u2019s so great.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then obviously in Paris, that whole\u00a0 cramping thing, dealing with the heat. And usually in New York, the heat is the issue. So, it\u2019ll be intriguing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kinda bounced back there winning Wimbledon, but Wimbledon temperatures were nowhere near what it can be in New York.
