\n\tWith just a week to go before the Aug. 21 release of Sam Smith\u2018s fifth studio album, Hazel Eyes<\/em>, the singer told The New Yorker Radio Hour<\/em> podcast this week that they\u2019ve already begun work on LP6, and it sounds like a rager.<\/p>\n

\n\tUnlike Hazel Eyes<\/em>, which Smith said was recorded using live performers singing and playing instruments in the studio, the unnamed follow-up came about because Smith was just \u201cinspired\u201d to go in a different, equally alluring direction. \u201cIt\u2019s more electro and more intense,\u201d they promised. \u201cI just make all different weird sounds and scream into the microphone and free myself,\u201d said the singer known for lush, near-operatic vocals on such soaring, heartbreak ballads as \u201cStay With Me\u201d and \u201cToo Good at Goodbyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut Smith also reached a chart peak with the ravenous, banging \u201cUnholy\u201d with Kim Petras in 2022, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking a chart peak for both acts. Describing the unbound nature of the next album, Smith said sometimes those wild screams and odd sounds, \u201cget turned into wild things you would never imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLike Hazel Eyes<\/em>, Smith said the upcoming collection is also about falling in love and being in love with their fiance, fashion designer Christian Cowan, but in a \u201cmore naughty, playful way.\u201d They described Hazel Eyes<\/em> as \u201cthis deep confession, a new traditional queer love romance album, that\u2019s how I see it. And whilst I\u2019ve been making that, I\u2019m also really hungry to shake my t\u2013ties and encapsulate \u2026 the way I feel in my relationship where I feel \u2026 I\u2019m still 34 and I love to dance and I\u2019m free and I\u2019m still inspired, like, intense hyper pop electro sounds. And so I\u2019m also doing that too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hazel Eyes<\/em> is the follow-up to 2023\u2019s Gloria<\/em>, which ran up to No. 7 on the\u00a0Billboard 200\u00a0and featured Petras collab megahit \u201cUnholy.\u201d<\/p>\n
