It\u2019s a new car that isn\u2019t being unveiled at Monterey Car Week\u2026 and it is loud.<\/p>\n<p>At least, we\u2019re assuming it is. Ford says about its new Dark Horse SC Convertible \u2013 revealed at Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit \u2013 that \u201cwithout a barrier between the driver and the sky, the cabin offers endless headroom and the full, unfiltered soundtrack of a deep V8 rumble mixed with the distinct whine of the supercharger&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<p>Because yes, this is a Mustang Convertible that has been given the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/usa\/new-mustang-dark-horse-sc-gets-wild-supercharged-v8-gtd\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"7b31b4ed-d27e-45c1-9eee-d4763497a72a\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"The new Mustang Dark Horse SC gets the wild supercharged V8 from the GTD\">full SC coupe treatment<\/a>. And if you don\u2019t remember that particular variant, it was a Mustang Coupe unveiled at the start of this year with a very lightly detuned version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/big-reads\/flat-out-ford-mustang-gtd-unhinged-v8-track-special-a-riot-drive\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"933d707f-d6b8-4193-9506-eb12dfa323f0\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Flat out in the Ford Mustang GTD: unhinged V8 track special is &apos;a riot to drive&apos;\">full-fat GTD\u2019s 5.2-litre supercharged V8<\/a>. Less aero, though.<\/p>\n<p>That engine sends a frankly terrifying 784bhp and 660lb ft of torque to the SC Convertible\u2019s rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and we\u2019re told this drop-top gets \u2018specially tuned\u2019 MagneRide suspension.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<p>\u201cIf the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,\u201d said Ford Racing boss Mark Rushbrook.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not to say it\u2019ll flex like a Fox Body convertible, though. Among other bits, Ford has added a magnesium brace right across the engine in an attempt to strap it down and stiffen things up. No word on whether the coupe\u2019s Track Pack will make it across here, but that included carbon fibre wheels, carbon ceramic brakes and extra carbon aero bits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<p>\u201cBoth the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers,\u201d said Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer for the Mustang Dark Horse SC. \u201cBut instead of prioritising the convertible for setting lap times, we\u2019ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps a full Track Pack wouldn\u2019t be right, then. Still, at least it has that engine.<\/p>\n<p>Ford hasn\u2019t mentioned any pricing just yet, but we do know that cars will start arriving with dealers in Spring next year.
