\n\tWhen asked to compare the two divorces, Kidman, who split from Cruise in 2001 after a decade together and finalized her divorce from country star Urban in January, said, \u201cIt\u2019s all new \u2026 every time!\u201d As for whether she had any fresh intel to share about how to keep your chin up after going through two very public breakups, Kidman reiterated what she and Urban said when they called it quits: family comes first.<\/p>\n

Everything else is not important,\u201d she said of raising children. \u201cThese kids now, that\u2019s what we drop everything for.\u201d The key takeaway, she said, \u201c\u2018It\u2019s OK, we\u2019re here. You\u2019ve got people who love you, who are going to hold your hand and get through it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKidman and Urban share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15 and she also has two children from her marriage to Cruise, daughter Bella, 33, and son Connor, 31.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe copped to this being a difficult year, recalling thinking, \u201c\u2018OK, I didn\u2019t expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now.\u2019 You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it\u2019s all going to be like and then it\u2019s\u2026 not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it\u2019s completely unknown to me right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThough Kidman rarely talks about her time with Cruise, the 59-year-old actress offered, \u201cYeah, I got married so young. Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple,\u201d she said. \u201cI remember people saying to me, \u2018OK, well this is really going to affect your career.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t care. I\u2019m in love. I want to be married.\u2019 And then I was his \u2018wife\u2019 and they were like, \u2018See, we told you.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018So what? I wasn\u2019t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I\u2019ll throw my career away. I don\u2019t care.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKidman was less forthcoming about her recent break from Urban, describing, \u201cA point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable, which is exposing. And then at the same time [I\u2019m] going, \u2018Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKidman filed for divorce from Urban in September and when asked to sum up how she\u2019s feeling now, the actress used the phrases \u201cfree falling,\u201d \u201cjumping off\u201d and, after a pause, suggested, \u201cLike, where am I going? And what\u2019s next?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOne place she\u2019s going for sure is a return in the fall to a fan-favorite role in the upcoming sequel Practical Magic 2<\/em>. She\u2019ll reteam with co-star and pal Sandra Bullock for that one, but Kidman also counts herself lucky that she has many other strong women around her to help deal with life\u2019s unexpected curveballs. <\/p>\n

\n\tAs an example, she recently befriended Charli xcx and the singer had nothing but the highest praise for the tireless, tenacious TV and film icon. \u201cShe\u2019s one of our last truly legendary movie stars,\u201d Charli texted the magazine. \u201cShe came to my show in New York when I was on the\u00a0Brat<\/em>\u00a0tour. I couldn\u2019t believe she came. Like,\u00a0the<\/em>\u00a0Nicole Kidman is at my show\u2026 what the f\u2013k?\u201d<\/p>\n
