\n\tFifty years ago this October, Stephen Bishop released his debut album, Careless<\/em>. The album included the now yacht rock classic, the swaying \u201cOn & On,\u201d which peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as its breezy predecessor \u201cSave It for a Rainy Day,\u201d which reached No. 22.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut it turns out Bishop held something back. He recorded two other songs \u2014 \u201cI Don\u2019t Know You Anymore\u201d and \u201cBack Again\u201d \u2014 that didn\u2019t make the final cut on the album. Below, Billboard<\/em> is premiering an animated video for the bittersweet, stripped-down ballad \u201cI Don\u2019t Know You Anymore.\u201d A 50th-anniversary limited vinyl edition of Careless<\/em> with the two additional songs and a 20-page booklet comes out Friday (Aug. 14).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was one of those songs I really loved, and for a while I thought it might make the album,\u201d Bishop tells Billboard <\/em>of \u201cI Don\u2019t Know You Anymore.\u201d\u00a0\u201cIn the end it didn\u2019t, but I never stopped believing in it. I\u2019m happy that, 50 years later, people finally get to hear it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOf Careless<\/em>, which featured Eric Clapton, Art Garfunkel, Andrew Gold and Chaka Khan, and its ongoing popularity (Keith Urban just covered \u201cOn & On\u201d on his yacht rock album, Flow State<\/em>), Bishop says, \u201cIt\u2019s hard to believe 50 years have gone by. Music was different then \u2014 you brought an album home, put it on the turntable, and listened from beginning to end. I\u2019m thankful\u00a0Careless<\/em>\u00a0has been part of so many people\u2019s lives, and it\u2019s been wonderful seeing new generations discover it. People of all ages still come up to me and tell me how these songs have stayed with them through different chapters of their lives. Even many of my friends and fellow musicians have shared what the album has meant to them over the years. That\u2019s incredibly humbling, and it\u2019s an honor I\u2019ll never take for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe album served as fans\u2019 musical introduction to Bishop, who went on to continue his successful solo career, including recording the 1982 top 30 hit \u201cIt Might Be You,\u201d the theme from Tootsie, <\/em>which received an Oscar nomination for best original song for songwriters Dave Grusin, Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman. Bishop himself was then nominated for a best original song Oscar three years later for writing \u201cSeparate Lives,\u201d performed by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin from the movie White Nights.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n\tLast August, Bishop released what he said would be his final album, THIMK,<\/em> which featured Sting, Clapton, Graham Nash, Garfunkel, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and Christopher Cross.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Careless<\/em> at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on Oct. 9.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
