\n\tThe musical duo from New Albany, Ohio are competing as Bird & Byron in this 21st<\/sup> season of AGT<\/em>. Bergere, a vocalist with soul in his chest, and Lorenz, with his effects-laden guitar work and programmed backing instruments, took the less easy route through the competition by way of the Judges\u2019 Callbacks, a new second-chance round for acts that earned \u201cYes\u201d votes during regular auditions.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tOn Tuesday night\u2019s episode (Aug. 11), and facing elimination, the pair performed an original number, \u201cBy My Side.\u201d For Bergere, progress in AGT<\/em> is nothing short of a dream opportunity. Back home, he works at a burger restaurant. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot on the line here,\u201d he remarks in a package.<\/p>\n

\n\tSo, nerves could be forgiven.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think you\u2019re great,\u201d judge Howie Mandel enthused after their performance. \u201cAnd your music and your voice is so distinctive. But, you know, we\u2019re talking about the showmanship.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFor this week two of Judges\u2019 Callbacks, Mandel and Sof\u00eda Vergara received support from guest advisors Nikki Glaser, Lele Pons, and Sebasti\u00e1n Yatra.<\/p>\n

\n\tGlaser chimed in, sharing with Bergere some advice on leading from the front. \u201cI saw you close your eyes,\u201d the comedian explained. \u201cYou didn\u2019t open them again. And I was thinking, man, if he opened his eyes, he\u2019d see we\u2019re all just grooving so hard right now. And you\u2019re scared of seeing something that wasn\u2019t even happening.\u201d She insisted, \u201cbe the front man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMandel agreed. \u201cYou\u2019re closing us off. Share the vibe. And share the vibe with America.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe childhood friends would be the last act to learn of their future in the contest.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYour singing is so good. Your playing is so haunting. It\u2019s really original,\u201d Mandel remarked in his sit-down with the lads. \u201cI think that you guys, regardless of what happens here, are already a success. If it was up to me, I would let you go to the live show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter a pregnant pause for effect, and a reminder that, yes, Mandel does have that power. And he waved them through. They\u2019re going to the Live shows, along with the likes of Nene Royal, Cris Sosa, Daniel Alvarez, Kameron Marshall, Brook Lynn and Olivia Befus. Those acts eliminated included Naimana and Daniele, Rynia Kando, Vahtang and Darrell Moten.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Live Quarterfinals begin Tuesday, Aug. 18 on NBC, and stream the following day on Peacock.<\/p>\n
