Kasia Niewiadoma and Demi Vollering are trying to turn down the volume ahead of Sunday\u2019s finale at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, but neither one is ceding ground.<\/p>\n

A media firestorm blew up after the finish-line drama when Niewiadoma accused Vollering teammate C\u00e9lia Gery of interfering with her line in the decisive moments of Saturday\u2019s stage.<\/p>\n

At the start line Sunday in Nice, Niewiadoma didn\u2019t apologize or back down from her comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not about creating drama. I know that certain things maybe feed the media and they make it bigger than it is,\u201d Niewiadoma told the media, including Velo<\/em>\u2018s Andy McGrath.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the biggest thing I\u2019ll take from it is that Demi was extremely strong. She\u2019s an extremely strong competitor for me, and to fight against her is also a pleasure because we make each other stronger.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not taking anything away from her. We just fight with her fair and square.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Canyon-SRAM star \u2014 who starts 8 seconds back of Vollering \u2014 said she\u2019s racing to win, not for revenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh no, no, no. Honestly, people who know me know that I\u2019m not revengeful, and they know that I wouldn\u2019t want to have beef with anyone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I act in certain ways, it\u2019s because I have reasons for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vollering also tried to turn down the tension, but backed her FDJ United-Suez teammate Gery from any social media backlash.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just cycling. C\u00e9lia\u2019s never done anything on purpose. It was a very tricky corner and there was only one line, and Kasia chose to come into the corner next to C\u00e9lia,\u201d Vollering said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel sad about what is happening in the moment. She is still so young, and we have to protect her,\u201d Vollering said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a nasty world out there in social media and you can really tear a person down like that. It should never be like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
