Friday\u2019s gripping showdown on the G\u00e9ant de Provence<\/em> turned the GC upside down, but nothing is decided.<\/p>\n Kasia Niewiadoma\u2019s long-range raid on Ventoux put the Polish star into yellow, yet Demi Vollering is still lurking just 15 seconds behind going into the final weekend.<\/p>\n \u201cI definitely expect a massive fight for basically everything, one second, sprints, everything,\u201d Niewiadoma said Friday. \u201cBecause yeah, the gap is so small.\u201d<\/p>\n Assuming Saturday\u2019s stage 8 doesn\u2019t reshuffle the GC \u2014 never say never in racing \u2014 the Tour could be decided Sunday.<\/p>\n The triple whammy of the steeps of Col d\u2019\u00c8ze, the high-speed descent into Nice, and maybe even by a bike throw to the line is setting up a worthy conclusion to what\u2019s been a thrilling 2026 Femmes.<\/p>\n Two years ago, Niewiadoma edged Vollering by just four seconds in the closest winning margin in since the Tour de France Femmes was revived in 2022.<\/p>\n Now those two are headed for another nail-biting showdown.<\/p>\n First, the pack must survive Saturday\u2019s 171.9km stage 8, the longest in this year\u2019s Tour.<\/p>\n Everyone expects a reduced bunch sprint, but two short, sharp late-stage climbs, weary legs, and finish-line bonus seconds could reshuffle the standings before the race reaches Nice.<\/p>\n If the pair still remain separated by only a handful of seconds heading into Sunday, things could get wild on the C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur.<\/p>\n FDJ United-Suez is already game-planning its tactics, because a Vollering victory and a small gap at the line could secure them the yellow jersey.<\/p>\n \u201cSunday is a hard day and Demi is better at that type of terrain, as you saw on day five,\u201d said FDJ United-Suez sport director Lars Boom. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t change the fact that we have to make up 15 seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n Sunday\u2019s short, explosive 99.2-kilometer circuit \u2014 similar to what\u2019s been used during Paris-Nice \u2014 packs four ascents of the iconic Col d\u2019\u00c8ze before a technical plunge into Nice.<\/p>\n On the final lap, the peloton tackles the climb from its steepest side via the Cat. 1 switchbacks overlooking the yachts of nearby Monaco.<\/p>\n Once over the summit, it\u2019s an eye-watering descent of about 12km before another 3km of flats to the line.<\/p>\n Who holds the advantage? Col d\u2019\u00c8ze is demanding, but even with four ascents, it is no Mont Ventoux.<\/p>\n Niewiadoma looked stronger on Ventoux, but Sunday\u2019s shorter, more explosive climbs could play more to Vollering\u2019s strengths.<\/p>\n If Vollering is still chasing on Sunday, she will try not to leave the yellow jersey to a final sprint. Expect attacks to come much earlier, with FDJ United-Suez trying to crack Niewiadoma on the climbs before the luge run into Nice.<\/p>\n Both descend well, so the finale might come down to who blinks first.<\/p>\n Vollering would be the odds-makers favorite if it\u2019s a mano-a-mano<\/em> sprint to the line.<\/p>\n But Dutch star would still need a gap plus bonuses to overtake Niewiadoma if the 15-second difference still stands going into Nice.<\/p>\n It\u2019s going to be tight. Niewiadoma can race defensively, while Vollering has to break the race wide open.<\/p>\n Of course, Vollering and Niewiadoma won\u2019t be racing alone, so tactics and positioning will be key. A few more riders in the mix could chew up the time bonuses or limit the separation in splits.<\/p>\n No matter what happens, this Femmes is going down to the wire.<\/p>\n Barring a major surprise, the Tour de France Femmes looks to have its first repeat winner since the race was revived in 2022.<\/p>\n Vollering won in 2023 and Niewiadoma pipped her in the dramatic finale on Alpe d\u2019Huez in 2024. Those two are in pole position if things don\u2019t change too much this weekend.<\/p>\n Marlen Reusser, who surrendered yellow on Ventoux and now sits 39 seconds behind, knows her chances to join the win club took a blow Friday. She\u2019ll go down swinging.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m sad, just sad.
