Biathlete superstar \u00c9milien Jacquelin will trade snow for tarmac this month when he makes this season\u2019s most improbable pro road debut.<\/p>\n
The Olympic medalist will line up in Decathlon-CMA CGM colors at La Polynormande on August 16 before tackling the punchy four-day Tour du Limousin two days later.<\/p>\n
Those two French races will determine whether the peloton\u2019s most unlikely rookie heads back to the shooting range this winter or keeps chasing the wheel going into 2027.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are two challenging races, but they suit his profile,\u201d Decathlon\u2019s performance director Jean-Baptiste Quiclet said. \u201cAfter these two events, we will have completed an important stage of the project. French media reports that Jacquelin must decide by the end of August whether to recommit to biathlon \u2014 which combines cross-country skiing with precision rifle shooting \u2014 for\u00a0the 2026-27 World Cup season or continue his cycling project into next year. At 31, Jacquelin arrives at Decathlon as the season\u2019s most surprising stagiaire<\/em>.<\/p>\n He is a four-time world champion, and won relay gold and pursuit bronze at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina to emerge as one of the Game\u2019s biggest breakout stars.<\/p>\n After the Milan-Cortina Olympics, the life-long cycling super fan signed a surprise, multi-year development deal with Decathlon-CMA CGM.<\/p>\n At 1.86 meters and 78 kilograms, Jacquelin is built like a cobbled classics bruiser, so the rolling roads of Normandy and Limousin will be a testing ground for his engine.<\/p>\n The leap from skis to bikes already revealed the risks. Florian Lipowitz, who left also biathlon behind as a teenager, finished third at the 2025 Tour de France.<\/p>\n Anton Palzer swapped ski mountaineering for Bora-Hansgrohe in 2021, but never won a professional race and retired in 2025.
