The revamp includes dozens of projects in the Gallery of Statues and Paintings, the nearby Palazzo Pitti, and the Boboli Gardens, some of which have already begun, while others are scheduled to start in the coming months, allowing the museum to remain open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAn operation of unprecedented scale and depth is underway,\u201d said Uffizi director Simone Verde in a statement. \u201cThe museum complex will emerge from it even more beautiful, and an ever more essential icon of Italy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tProjects include new, more \u201cvisitor-friendly\u201d services, displays, labels and signage, rehung galleries, artwork and gallery restorations, new lighting and the repurposing of spaces, allowing for more exhibition space, that \u201cwill radically transform\u201d the monument.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA museum representative told <em>ARTnews<\/em> via email that renovations \u201cshould end\u2014we hope\u2014in two years from now.\u201d The \u20ac50 million ($57.6 million) award package, they added, was granted by Italy\u2019s Ministry of Culture, along with private contributions, including \u20ac5 million ($5.76 million) from the American philanthropist Veronika Atkins.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-full alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  \">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Nuova-area-accoglienza-Uffizi.jpg?w=400\" alt height=\"843\" width=\"1180\"><\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-font-size-12 lrv-u-flex lrv-u-flex-direction-column lrv-u-padding-tb-025\"><span class=\"lrv-u-font-size-14@desktop\">A model showing the redesign of the new Uffizi Galleries reception area to the Magliabechiana Hall. Those works appear particularly timely, as parts of Europe continue to bear the brunt of one of its hottest summers on record, forcing some museums and monuments to partially or entirely close. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThere is also the renovation of the Boboli Gardens\u2019 amphitheater for public performances, the Fountain of Neptune, and the <em>Isolotto<\/em> [little island] basin. The top floor of the Palazzo Pitti, known as the Piano degli Occhi [Floor of the Eyes], 1,000 square meters, will be transformed into a new exhibition space, while the Uffizi\u2019s Flemish galleries will reopen with an entirely new display. Visitors can also anticipate a new section devoted to the history of the Uffizi collection, plus a new reception area to the museum\u2019s Magliabechiana Hall overlooking the Piazza del Grano, to name just a few changes ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAlready, the Botticelli rooms have been restored to a more traditional display inspired by the museum\u2019s history, with walls painted \u201cRenaissance gray\u201d over the more modern white and, in contrast, darkened baseboards, similar to how they appeared in the past. Botticelli\u2019s Primavera and Birth of Venus have also been installed in new cases that open easily for inspection, as <em>The New York Times<\/em> reported.
