Athletes in sports leagues with Topps licensing deals wear a version of the Debut Patch on their jersey during their first game appearance. The patch is then put into a one-of-one trading card that can be pulled from a pack.<\/p>\n<p>The record sale for a Debut Patch card is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6216741\/2025\/03\/21\/paul-skenes-debut-patch-auction-sale\/\">$1.11 million paid<\/a> for that of star Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes, which sold at auction despite his team famously offering a bounty similar to the Mavericks\u2019 offer in November 2024. The card was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6104328\/2025\/02\/01\/paul-skenes-mlb-debut-patch-young-collector\/\">pulled by an 11-year-old boy in California<\/a> on Christmas Day 2025.
