I always believed he had a gift from God and was imbued with power from the earth. It is never easy to carry as much as he did. Helping him carry some of it along the way has been the honor of my life. I thank him and God for the trust and know we shall meet again. So long, my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOscar-winner Hansard, 56, died in an early morning motorcycle crash in Dublin last week. <\/p>\n

\n\tFamily, friends and fellow musicians honored his life and work during the funeral at St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral, with U2\u2018s\u00a0Bono\u00a0and\u00a0The Edge,\u00a0Pearl Jam\u00a0frontman\u00a0Eddie Vedder,\u00a0Hozier,\u00a0Imelda May, Jake Clemons of the E Street Band and Liam \u00d3 Maonla\u00ed of Hothouse Flowers joining mourners in honoring Hansard\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to marveling at Hansard\u2019s ability to befriend just about anyone \u2014\u00a0\u201cpeople on the green outside, best friends. People tuning in, best friends. Even people who haven\u2019t met him, best friends. Everyone who met him, they just remember the day they met him\u201d \u2014\u00a0Bono did a spoken word version of U2\u2019s \u201cBeautiful Day,\u201d accompanied by The Edge. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer reworked the lyrics in honor of Hansard and on Wednesday, the band shared the those new lines alongside a painting of Hansard by Irish artist Colin Davidson. \u201cSee those eyes flashing landing light blue\/ Seven towers holding up the sky for you\/ Arrivals and departures, this is what we do,\u201d they read. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou write your life \u2018til the story becomes true\/ Ginger cake smile, a movie star too,\u201d they continued. \u201cIf the street be your stage how come there\u2019s thousands in the queue\/ McDaid\u2019s feels like a stadium but there\u2019s only me and you\/ You left a hangover from hell, of this there is no doubt\/ But as you wake up in heaven, all the angels will shout.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe post also featured video of the tone poem lullaby voicemail sent by punk godmother Patti Smith and of Bono reading the \u201cBeautiful Day\u201d rewrite. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to Bono, Pearl Jam singer and Hansard\u2019s good friend Eddie Vedder performed Hansard\u2019s \u201cThe Song of Good Hope\u201d with Irglov\u00e1, with Hansard\u2019s brother, Richie Hansard, delivering an emotional eulogy. The service ended with a cover of\u00a0Bob Dylan\u2018s \u201cForever Young,\u201d featuring Bono, Vedder, The Edge, Liam \u00d3 Maonla\u00ed and a choir of musicians assembled around the altar.<\/p>\n
