The New York Knicks have earned the right to have a quiet offseason. Champions get to do what they want. Yet, the 7-foot elephant in the room still looms over New York as it continues to take its laps around the dog days of the NBA calendar.<\/p>\n

Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns is eligible for a four-year, $272 million contract extension. That is the most that the soon-to-be 31-year-old can receive from the Knicks. Towns was extension eligible last offseason. However, nothing came to fruition between the two sides. Towns will make just over $57 million this coming season and has a player option worth just over $61 million the following year before his contract expires.<\/p>\n

One thing I\u2019m certain of is that New York\u2019s decision-makers will offer Towns an extension. What I\u2019m not certain of, and don\u2019t expect, is whether the cash-conscious Knicks will offer him a max contract.<\/p>\n

Some of the stuff I’m looking for can Mohamma Diawar be one of the best players on the floor in some of these games? The second year forward, big bodied, can shoot it, can drive straight. Um, does he look like a guy that’s primed for regular rotation minutes throughout the whole season? Does Pacom Badatier shoot the ball well? Uh, the youngster has not shot the ball well at the G-League or NBA level, but a lot of people in the Knicks organization believe that that’s going to turn around at some point. Is Jack Cale, the 2nd round rookie, is he a bucket? Look at some of his film. The dude can put the ball in the basket. Can he do it in summer league right away? Can he make an impression on the Knicks to where they maybe consider giving him a roster spot or a two-way spot as opposed to sending him overseas? Um, those are the 3 things I’m really looking for here at Summer league as it pertains to the Knicks.
