\n\tOn his most recent single, \u201cMy Body Isn\u2019t Ready,\u201d sombr gets vulnerable about his body image \u2014 something he opened up about more deeply in a new interview with Variety <\/em>published Wednesday (Aug. 5).<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his conversation for the publication\u2019s Power of Young Hollywood issue, the 21-year-old pop star touched on why he feels it\u2019s important for him to be completely honest about his feelings in his music, even when it\u2019s on a song that\u2019s as personal as \u201cBody\u201d is. The track dropped in late June and finds sombr singing, \u201cI like you, but my body isn\u2019t ready\/ I want you, but the mirror won\u2019t let me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI want people who look up to me that might not be happy about their body image to understand that I\u2019m not always happy about my body image,\u201d he told Variety<\/em>. \u201cI saw a comment today that was like, \u2018I\u2019m so glad that my favorite artist goes through the same things that I go through.\u2019 That made me want to cry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe New York native went on to discuss one big reason his relationship to his body is complicated. \u201cI have issues with eating,\u201d he explained. \u201cSometimes I do not like eating, and it makes me want to throw up to eat. I can never choose what to eat. I never crave anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a weird thing I have,\u201d he continued. \u201cMost of the time before shows I\u2019m literally eating against my will, so I have enough energy to get through the show. It\u2019s been my lifelong struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his rise to stardom starting with the success of 2024 single \u201cBack to Friends\u201d \u2014 which climbed to a peak of No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 this past January \u2014 sombr has not been immune to invasive public discourse surrounding his appearance. The musician\u2019s figure is admittedly striking, standing well over 6 feet tall with a slim build. \u201cThat\u2019s \u2018My Body Isn\u2019t Ready,\u2019 you know?\u201d he added of his apathy toward food in the interview, laughing. \u201cThat\u2019s why my body is like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn October, a person on TikTok went viral with a video criticizing Sombr\u2019s performance style and likening his physical appearance to \u201cSlenderman.\u201d The Grammy nominee responded at the time with his own video calling the latter remark \u201ca massive body-shaming hate train,\u201d adding, \u201c\u201cYou guys need to find problematic people to hate on, because I am just existing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis year, sombr has also released the singles \u201cHomewrecker\u201d and \u201cPotential,\u201d both of which charted on the Hot 100. His debut album I Barely Know Her <\/em>peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 in September.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe star\u2019s conversation with Variety <\/em>comes shortly after he helped the Songwriters Hall of Fame induct Taylor Swift by performing \u201cCardigan\u201d and \u201cDear John\u201d at the 2026 ceremony, during which the Eras Tour headliner also sang sombr\u2019s praises during her speech. According to him, he couldn\u2019t even look at Swift in the audience as he was singing her songs.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf I looked at her for three seconds during the performance, my mind would have completely blanked because that\u2019s Taylor Swift,\u201d sombr told Variety<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s a goddess. I remember looking at her for a split second while performing and almost losing it, but then I looked away.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
