This just in: a company that builds cars is taking a car to a place where cars are wheeled out in front of the public gaze. The specifics? McMurtry Automotive. The mad, electric, rocketship Sp\u00e9irling PURE<\/a>. And California.<\/p>\n

Specifically, Monterey\u2019s now well-publicised Car Week, where the record-crushing Sp\u00e9irling will make its global debut at The Quail, and then again at the excellent Monterey Motorsports Reunion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

So, with that in mind, the good folk over at McMurtry went on a little photoshoot, and here are the results: as good a time as any to bask in one of the wildest, maddest and most brilliant little things to emerge from these isles in a long, long while.<\/p>\n

The production version of the Sp\u00e9irling is of course, a fair bit different from the car that \u2013 perhaps almost literally \u2013 catapulted it into global discourse. In short: the battery\u2019s bigger (100kWh), the car\u2019s a little bigger, there’s more brake-regen, new electric motors, more cooling, headlights, a hinged second door, new fan blades and motors, a taller ride height\u2026 basically anything that makes it permissible on public roads.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Though, while the car might have changed, human brains have not. Will any normal, sentient human be able to handle the accelerative and G force on offer here? Indeed, it\u2019s a question posed not just by us, but by the TopGear.com community.<\/p>\n

For its part, McMurtry assures us it is actually usable, because \u2013 according to MD and co-founder Thomas Yates \u2013 \u201cfeedback from our earliest deposit holders has shaped the car just as much as our own engineering ambition did\u201d. This, explains Yates, \u201chelped turn a record-breaking prototype into something extraordinary and genuinely usable\u201d. So, you don\u2019t<\/em> have to be an Ollie Marriage<\/a> or a Max Chilton to extract every last drop of performance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
