It was broadcast on BBC 6 Music yesterday (Monday August 3).<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For decades now, live sessions have been recorded and broadcast across BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 Music. Notable guests have included legendary artists like David Bowie, Nirvana and Oasis, as well as rising talent including Mary In The Junkyard, Keo, Sienna Spiro, New Dad and Nemzzz.<\/p>\n<p>The chapter is coming to an end now as the BBC finalises its plans to relocate to east London, where it will be holding sessions at a new high-tech studio at Olympic Park \u2013 a plan that has been in place since 2018.<\/p>\n<p>For the final session at Maida Vale, Fontaines D.C. played their first set since the death of manager, friend and influential Irish music champion Trevor Dietz. It\u2019s just a building but it is a legendary building,\u201d he said. \u201cThis street hasn\u2019t changed at all since 1994, when I first came here\u2026 I was thinking about all the hundreds and hundreds of sessions that have been recorded on the other side of these doors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the sessions I first heard myself of late-night Radio 1 from \u201993 onwards, all the evening sessions. He also added that it was almost like a \u201cfinal goodbye to a landmark of the British music scene\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tune in to the full episode here.<\/p>\n<p>When it was confirmed that Fontaines would be playing the final ever Maida Vale BBC session, the broadcaster shared: \u201cFrom pioneering radio broadcasts in the 1930s to iconic music sessions \u2013 for nearly a century, the Maida Vale studios have been a cornerstone of British broadcasting history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis former ice rink in West London has been a hub for the BBC\u2019s musical output for nearly a century, and was a permanent home for the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Love that place\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The news that Maida Vale Studios had been sold by the BBC was revealed in 2023, in\u00a0a partnership between Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Hans Zimmer and Steven Kofsky. News of the sale first emerged in the summer of that year, with reports suggesting that Zimmer bought the BBC\u2018s iconic studio for \u00a310.5million.<\/p>\n<p>As per a press release, purchasers have agreed that \u201cMaida Vale\u2019s legacy as a centre for pioneering music-making will continue\u201d, and plan to keep the original exterior of the building to \u201cpreserve the ethos of Maida Vale\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The building will remain a studio space, but there are plans for a multi-million pound refurbishment including the creation of a not-for-profit educational facility along with a \u201clong-term commitment to providing local jobs, innovation and investment\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>For Fontaines, the session comes ahead of their return to the stage this month for a run of European dates as part of the follow-up to the \u2018Romance\u2019\u00a0era,\u00a0 before massive shows including headlining Reading &amp; Leeds 2026.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve also been working on new material, having recently contributed music to the <em>Peaky Blinders Immortal Man<\/em> soundtrack and the War Child \u2018Help(2)\u2019 album.<\/p>\n<p>Last week saw author, musician and journalist John Robb share an exclusive excerpt from his memoirs with <em>NME<\/em>, in which he discussed being one of the first to discover Fontaines D.C. as well as discussing unheard material he has from the the iconic London Studios, and marked the final BBC Live Session to be held at the space. It was broadcast on BBC 6 Music yesterday (Monday August 3).<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For decades now, live sessions have been recorded and broadcast across BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 Music. Notable guests have included legendary artists like David Bowie, Nirvana and Oasis, as well as rising talent including Mary In The Junkyard, Keo, Sienna Spiro, New Dad and Nemzzz.<\/p>\n<p>The chapter is coming to an end now as the BBC finalises its plans to relocate to east London, where it will be holding sessions at a new high-tech studio at Olympic Park \u2013 a plan that has been in place since 2018.<\/p>\n<p>For the final session at Maida Vale, Fontaines D.C. played their first set since the death of manager, friend and influential Irish music champion Trevor Dietz. It\u2019s just a building but it is a legendary building,\u201d he said. \u201cThis street hasn\u2019t changed at all since 1994, when I first came here\u2026 I was thinking about all the hundreds and hundreds of sessions that have been recorded on the other side of these doors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the sessions I first heard myself of late-night Radio 1 from \u201993 onwards, all the evening sessions. He also added that it was almost like a \u201cfinal goodbye to a landmark of the British music scene\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tune in to the full episode here.<\/p>\n<p>When it was confirmed that Fontaines would be playing the final ever Maida Vale BBC session, the broadcaster shared: \u201cFrom pioneering radio broadcasts in the 1930s to iconic music sessions \u2013 for nearly a century, the Maida Vale studios have been a cornerstone of British broadcasting history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis former ice rink in West London has been a hub for the BBC\u2019s musical output for nearly a century, and was a permanent home for the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Love that place\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The news that Maida Vale Studios had been sold by the BBC was revealed in 2023, in\u00a0a partnership between Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Hans Zimmer and Steven Kofsky.
