Play it everywhere, get it heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that the removal of the track may not be related to the lyrical content or political stance of the song, but rather to do with the way in which Boy George wrote it. Around the time of the release, the singer confirmed that he used AI to help generate the track \u2013 and Bandcamp\u2019s policy outlines that it does not permit music to be uploaded that is \u201cgenerated wholly or in substantial part by AI\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>NME<\/em> has reached out to Bandcamp for comment.<\/p>\n<p>After some backlash to the song, Boy George responded to criticism and said that the song is meant to be \u201cpro-peace\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-2\" class=\"lazy-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe suggestion that I feel no compassion for Palestinians is both untrue and absurd. Murdered trying [to] help others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nova Festival is a mirror of my world as a DJ and I have played many such festivals, including in Israel, so it resonated with me and I felt compelled to write something. I could have been there, and we know that there were people from more than 40 countries who were. I felt these deep emotions and I wrote this song for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Continuing, George defended his rejection of the term genocide in the song, which opens with the lyric: \u201c<em>You say genocide, I say war<\/em>\u201d, and added that the questioned why more musicians had not publicly supported Jewish communities \u2013 adding that speaking up for his Jewish friends did not mean that he supported the war or opposed Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand that it is uncomfortable to defend your friends when a war like this is raging, but the woman who sells me bagels is not to blame, neither is my doctor or publicist, manager, ex-boyfriend or my thousands of Jewish friends,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThis song is for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI come from a place of peace. I am a Jew-loving, trans-hugging queer hippy and my mother would be proud of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>George has voiced support for Jewish communities on several occasions in recent years. In May, he shared a message of solidarity at an anti-Semitism march in London.<\/p>\n<p>His latest song has been condemned by Heaven 17 and The Human League co-founder Martyn Ware as an \u201covertly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Actor Patrick Clanton, who previously appeared alongside George in the Broadway production of <em>Moulin Rouge!<\/em>, also said that he was \u201cembarrassed\u201d to have worked with him.<\/p>\n<p>A United Nations-appointed Commission of Inquiry concluded in September 2025 that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Amnesty International has reached the same conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has repeatedly denied committing genocide or war crimes, maintaining that its military campaign followed the Hamas-led attacks of October 7 and was an act of self-defence. it\u2019s stance which appears to reject descriptions of Israel\u2019s military campaign in Gaza as genocide, as well as criticising musicians who have publicly supported Palestine.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Boy George later gave more insight into the track, saying it was inspired by his visit to the Nova Music Festival Exhibition in London and meetings with people affected by the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Since the song\u2019s release, the Culture Club singer has pulled out of his two-week run at the London Palladium, where he was set to play King Herod in <em>Jesus Christ Superstar<\/em>, and also parted ways with his record label manager after he refused to release the track.<\/p>\n<p>Now, he has hit out at Bandcamp for removing his profile. Play it everywhere, get it heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that the removal of the track may not be related to the lyrical content or political stance of the song, but rather to do with the way in which Boy George wrote it. Around the time of the release, the singer confirmed that he used AI to help generate the track \u2013 and Bandcamp\u2019s policy outlines that it does not permit music to be uploaded that is \u201cgenerated wholly or in substantial part by AI\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>NME<\/em> has reached out to Bandcamp for comment.<\/p>\n<p>After some backlash to the song, Boy George responded to criticism and said that the song is meant to be \u201cpro-peace\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-2\" class=\"lazy-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe suggestion that I feel no compassion for Palestinians is both untrue and absurd. I felt these deep emotions and I wrote this song for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Continuing, George defended his rejection of the term genocide in the song, which opens with the lyric: \u201c<em>You say genocide, I say war<\/em>\u201d, and added that the questioned why more musicians had not publicly supported Jewish communities \u2013 adding that speaking up for his Jewish friends did not mean that he supported the war or opposed Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand that it is uncomfortable to defend your friends when a war like this is raging, but the woman who sells me bagels is not to blame, neither is my doctor or publicist, manager, ex-boyfriend or my thousands of Jewish friends,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThis song is for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI come from a place of peace. I am a Jew-loving, trans-hugging queer hippy and my mother would be proud of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>George has voiced support for Jewish communities on several occasions in recent years. In May, he shared a message of solidarity at an anti-Semitism march in London.<\/p>\n<p>His latest song has been condemned by Heaven 17 and The Human League co-founder Martyn Ware as an \u201covertly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Actor Patrick Clanton, who previously appeared alongside George in the Broadway production of <em>Moulin Rouge!<\/em>, also said that he was \u201cembarrassed\u201d to have worked with him.<\/p>\n<p>A United Nations-appointed Commission of Inquiry concluded in September 2025 that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Amnesty International has reached the same conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has repeatedly denied committing genocide or war crimes, maintaining that its military campaign followed the Hamas-led attacks of October 7 and was an act of self-defence.
