\n\tClara Wu Tsai and Joseph Tsai, the billionaire art collectors and owners of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty, are divorcing after nearly 30 years of marriage, the\u00a0New York Post<\/em>\u00a0reported Friday.<\/p>\n \n\tThe couple, who married in New York in 1996, were named jointly to\u00a0ARTnews\u2019s<\/em> Top 200 Collectors list in 2018 and 2025, with\u00a0a focus on contemporary art.<\/p>\n \n\tA representative for the Tsais told the\u00a0Post<\/em>\u00a0that the split was mutual and amicable and that the two plan to keep working together across their business and philanthropic interests. Tsai will remain chairman of Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment and governor of the Nets, while Wu Tsai will remain vice chair and governor of the Liberty.<\/p>\n \n\tThe couple\u2019s art collection is relatively private, but their patronage has been much more visible. In recent years, they have helped bring work by Rashid Johnson, Tavares Strachan, and LaToya Ruby Frazier to Barclays Center, where Nets and Liberty play. In 2025, Frazier showed freestanding portraits of New York Liberty players there in what was her first public art commission.<\/p>\n \n\tWu Tsai told\u00a0Cultured<\/em>\u00a0that year that sports fans and art lovers had something in common: both were looking for \u201csome sort of transcendence,\u201d which made showing art in a sports setting feel natural to her.<\/p>\n \n\tTheir giving has also reached major New York institutions. In 2022, the pair donated $50 million toward the redevelopment of David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, and they have supported exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of the City of New York.
