a ball of clay for the first time at 41 and felt a change. \u201cI knew I\u2019d found what I had been looking for,\u201d she tells Colossal. \u201cWorking with clay felt completely natural. Ideas came effortlessly, and I immediately had a clear vision for what I wanted to build with my new business.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/matylda.com.pl\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ceramika Matylda<\/a> was born.<\/p>\n<p>The Gda\u0144sk, Poland-based artist is particularly drawn to animals, especially dogs. Their playful, quirky, cartoonish faces and spaghetti-like limbs are both relatable and slightly unfamiliar, tapping into a sense of sentimentality and curiosity. \u201cMy newest collection of poodles was inspired by my own dog, Rudolf, who passed away recently,\u201d Iwaszkiewicz says. \u201cThese pieces are incredibly personal to me\u2014they\u2019re my way of saying goodbye to him and celebrating the joy he brought into my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/matylda-5.jpg\" class=\"swipebox\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-476381\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"3062\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/matylda-5.jpg\" alt=\"a ceramic sculptural jar in the form of a cartoonish small dog\" class=\"wp-image-476386\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>For Ceramika Matylda, the artist focuses predominantly on pieces that are both sculptural and functional, such as jars, candleholders, and salt and pepper shakers. Increasingly, she\u2019s branching out into pure sculpture, like the playful vignette of a horse leaping over a wave as it gives an octopus a lift.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like my work to be open to interpretation,\u201d Iwaszkiewicz says. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of humor in it, a sense of playfulness, and I never take the world too seriously.
