Open, reaching her very first WTA 500 final at the North American hardcourt tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The Filipina star has beaten Qinwen Zheng, Leylah Fernandez, Elina Svitolina, and Naomi Osaka en route to the final, where Jessica Pegula awaits.<\/p>\n<p>Eala and Pegula\u2019s final was derailed by bad weather, which meant the match was delayed into Monday, August 3rd, with the scoreline at 6-4, 1-2.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old has proved incredibly popular once again on the WTA Tour during her run at the Washington Open and she appeared as part of the tournament\u2019s latest promotional video about rule changes in tennis.<\/p>\n<p>Eala appeared alongside the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ben Shelton and she outlined the one thing she would like to see in the sport.<\/p>\n<h2>More Alex after clinching rankings milestone at Washington DC Open<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Asked by the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mubadaladcopen\/status\/2083937739955650631?s=20\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Open<\/a> which rule change she\u2019d like introduced into tennis, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/alex-eala\">Eala<\/a> responded: \u201cI think on court coaching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eala believes it would create more of an atmosphere on court. She explained: \u201cI think it would just be cooler if they were on the court you know? It gives it a little more pizzaz!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, coaches can give offer advice from designated seats, with a couple of caveats.<\/p>\n<p>Coaches are still not allowed to interrupt play or distract opponents, but their influence has been felt on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/ATP-Tour\">ATP<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/WTA-Tour\">WTA Tours<\/a> since its introducing in the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>Eala\u2019s call for coaches closer to the action would be similar to what is currently allowed during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Davis-Cup\">Davis Cup<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/billie-jean-king\">Billie Jean King<\/a> Cup ties.<\/p>\n<p>Captains of a nation are set courtside for both events and they are allowed to give their players advice during the arranged sitdowns between games.<\/p>\n<p>Although Eala\u2019s call for change will not please all of her fellow athletes.<\/p>\n<p>When the new rule was introduced in 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Denis-Shapovalov\">Denis Shapovalov<\/a> took exception with a post on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot just as a tennis player but as a fan of this sport it\u2019s sad to see this new off-court coaching rule,\u201d he wrote on <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/denis_shapo\/status\/1848387597258953193\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a>. \u201cTennis is special because you are out there alone.
