I am devastated for the loss of\u00a0the innocent\u00a0lives on both sides of this war and I call for peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have read members of the press calling me a \u2018genocide denier\u2019, yet those who deny the suffering of Israelis are given a free pass.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>George continued:\u00a0\u201cMy song is pro-peace and about the emotions I felt after visiting the Nova Exhibition and talking to Michael and Lisa Marlowe, who had their son Jake taken from them.\u00a0Murdered\u00a0trying [to] help others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nova Festival is a mirror of my world as a DJ and I have played many such festivals, including in Israel, so it resonated with me and I felt compelled to write something.\u00a0I could have been there, and we know that there were people from more than 40 countries who were. I felt these deep\u00a0emotions\u00a0and I wrote this song for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING:<br \/>Singer @BoyGeorge has released a public statement about the horrendous attacks he has had since daring to write a song that humanises Israelis. <br \/>He says he was inspired to write it after going to the Nova Festival exhibition in London and meeting Mike and Lisa Marlowe\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/M6yejy008e<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nicole Lampert (@nicolelampert) July 31, 2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-2\" class=\"lazy-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>George also defended his rejection of the term genocide in the song, which opens with the lyric: \u201c<i>You say genocide, I say war<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy personal opinion is that this is sadly a war, but not an attempt to wipe out Palestine,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I respect that everyone has their own opinions and believe we should all be allowed to have that right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He then questioned why more musicians had not\u00a0publicly supported\u00a0Jewish communities, adding that speaking up for his Jewish friends did not mean that he supported the war or opposed Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand that it is uncomfortable to defend your friends when a war like this is raging, but the woman who sells me bagels is not to blame, neither is my doctor or publicist, manager, ex-boyfriend or my thousands of Jewish friends,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThis song is for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI come from a place of peace. I am a Jew-loving, trans-hugging queer hippy and my mother would be proud of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boy\u00a0George later confirmed that he had used artificial intelligence to create the track, describing it as \u201cAI for good\u201d and admitting that he would \u201cstruggle to write this with a human\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The song was condemned by\u00a0Heaven 17\u00a0and\u00a0The Human League co-founder Martyn Ware as an \u201covertly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda\u201d. Actor Patrick Clanton, who previously appeared alongside George in the Broadway production of <i>Moulin Rouge!<\/i>,\u00a0also\u00a0said that he was \u201cembarrassed\u201d to have worked with him.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0United Nations-appointed Commission of Inquiry\u00a0concluded in September 2025 that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.\u00a0Amnesty International\u00a0has reached the same conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has repeatedly denied committing genocide or war crimes,\u00a0maintaining\u00a0that its military campaign followed the Hamas-led attacks of October 7 and was an act of\u00a0self-defence. It rejected the UN Commission\u2019s findings as \u201cdistorted and false\u201d and a \u201clibellous\u00a0sham\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>George has voiced support for Jewish communities on several occasions in recent years. In May, he\u00a0shared a message of solidarity at an anti-Semitism march in London.<\/p>\n<p>Culture Club are currently due to return to the stage for\u00a0\u2018The Singles\u2019 UK arena tour with I am a Jew-loving, trans-hugging queer hippy and my mother would be proud of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boy\u00a0George later confirmed that he had used artificial intelligence to create the track, describing it as \u201cAI for good\u201d and admitting that he would \u201cstruggle to write this with a human\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The song was condemned by\u00a0Heaven 17\u00a0and\u00a0The Human League co-founder Martyn Ware as an \u201covertly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda\u201d. Actor Patrick Clanton, who previously appeared alongside George in the Broadway production of <i>Moulin Rouge!<\/i>,\u00a0also\u00a0said that he was \u201cembarrassed\u201d to have worked with him.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0United Nations-appointed Commission of Inquiry\u00a0concluded in September 2025 that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.\u00a0Amnesty International\u00a0has reached the same conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has repeatedly denied committing genocide or war crimes,\u00a0maintaining\u00a0that its military campaign followed the Hamas-led attacks of October 7 and was an act of\u00a0self-defence. It rejected the UN Commission\u2019s findings as \u201cdistorted and false\u201d and a \u201clibellous\u00a0sham\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>George has voiced support for Jewish communities on several occasions in recent years.
