The sources spoke with <em>The Athletic <\/em>on the condition of anonymity because the signature shoe deal has not been formally announced.<\/p>\n<p>Wembanyama, 22, was the first unanimous winner of the NBA\u2019s Defensive Player of the Year award and finished third in MVP voting last season. During the postseason, Nike began running more social media advertising featuring Wembanyama, celebrating his wins on the road to the finals. Wembanyama has primarily played in Nike\u2019s G.T. series of shoes, featuring a small alien logo the brand first unveiled when he became a Nike athlete in 2022, the year before the Spurs drafted him. This was chosen to signify that, according to Nike, Wembanyama is the NBA\u2019s brightest rising star. We are excited about all that we\u2019ve built together and look forward to more wins ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nike recently released a special \u201cNike Atelier\u201d capsule collection in conjunction with Wembanyama, featuring a reimagined lifestyle version of the T90 Laser III soccer shoe.<\/p>\n<p>Wembanyama signs his long-term deal with Nike just weeks after signing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7411492\/2026\/07\/10\/victor-wembanyama-supermax-extension-spurs\/\">five-year, $252 million extension<\/a> with the Spurs that will keep him in San Antonio through the 2031-32 season. Wembanyama was eligible to sign for the $301 million supermax, which includes around $50 million in bonuses if he once again met one of several award criteria next season. But the Spurs star took the rare decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7462620\/2026\/07\/22\/victor-wembanyama-spurs-contract-nba-video-game-cover\/\">settle for the standard max<\/a>, telling <em>The Athletic<\/em>\u2019s Jason Jones, \u201cThe reality of today\u2019s NBA is that often, the potential of teams is not fulfilled because of money.
