The typical way this debt is paid back is using the income and assets of the purchased company, so once this deal goes through, the stakes will likely be high for EA to perform well. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/senior-ea-exec-laura-miele-thinks-ai-has-led-to-a-real-rise-of-creativity-among-the-publishers-studios\">Generative AI appears to be one tool in EA&#8217;s belt for doing so<\/a>, per its executives.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple institutions across the world eventually &#8211; after much debate &#8211; approved this merger including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/saudi-arabian-pif-aquisition-electronic-arts-approved-european-union\">the European Commission<\/a> and the US Fed (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/uvw-union-fed-trade-commission-letter-petition\">despite the US Video Game union writing in protest<\/a>). EA shareholders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/ea-shareholders-approve-saudi-arabian-buyout-leaving-only-the-us-government-able-to-block-the-deal\">also approved the merger last December<\/a>, so as EA states in the 8k, the path is clear for the deal to go through.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since this has been proposed, multiple companies involved in the leveraged buyout have been criticized. Saudi Arabia has a poor history of human rights abuses, and its ongoing financial spread into the video game industry has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/eas-takeover-the-saudi-arabian-public-investment-fund-and-vanity-mega-projects-human-rights-watch-assesses-the-impact-of-gamings-latest-controversy\">criticised by human rights organisations as sportswashing<\/a>. Affinity Partners&#8217; CEO Jared Kushner is also the son-in-law of US president Donald Trump, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/ea-private-acquisition-deal-expected-to-go-smoothly-says-report-as-what-regulator-is-going-to-say-no-to-the-presidents-son-in-law\">some suspect was a reason this deal went through US regulators smoothly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This new filing addressing the upcoming merger comes soon after another report containing the bonus packages for EA executives.
