Start --><\/p>\n<p>After a lengthy build-up, Alex de Minaur eventually came out quite comfortably against Cruz Hewitt.<\/p>\n<p>Hewitt, who is the son of Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt, has know de Minaur for over a decade, having grown up together in the Australian tennis scene.<\/p>\n<p>It was a difficult match for de Minaur emotionally, but he came through the match in straight sets, toppling the 17-year-old qualifier 6-2, 6-3.<\/p>\n<p>De Minaur will now face Brandon Nakashima in the quarter finals of the Washington Open, while Hewitt will look to build upon his first-ever ATP victory.<\/p>\n<p>In his post-match press conference, de Minaur was asked whether he has had any communication with both of the Hewitts since defeating the teenager.<\/p>\n<h2>More tennis to be playing each other this week, right? I thought that it was definitely going to come at some stage, but I didn\u2019t expect it to happen so early.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think all of us as a collective didn\u2019t really know how to kind of act right because it\u2019s the first time we\u2019ve been in that position and and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/lleyton-hewitt\">Lleyton\u2019s<\/a> been an incredible help over my whole career and and I\u2019m glad to see him be there with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/cruz-hewitt\">Cruz<\/a> and I think he\u2019s got a bright future ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Alex-de-Minaur\">De Minaur<\/a> and Lleyton Hewitt know each other well, as the latter is the former\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Davis-Cup\">Davis Cup<\/a> captain. Hewitt has aided de Minaur\u2019s career immensely, despite not being his official coach.<\/p>\n<p>The Davis Cup captain will now be hoping he can guide his son on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/ATP-Tour\">ATP Tour<\/a> and another Australian legend has tipped the teenager for success.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/pat-rafter\">Pat Rafter<\/a> has heaped praise on the teenage Australian for his performances at the Washington Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really happy. I didn\u2019t think Cruz was going to win his first one, so I was very excited for him. I don\u2019t know him that well,\u201d Rafter told <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/sport\/tennis\/news-pat-rafter-exclusive-cruz-hewitt-advice-tour-realities-australian-open-comments-padel-invitational-20260731-p60ke3.html\" target=\"_blank\">nine.com.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s a good kid, he\u2019s obviously got passion,\u201d continued the Grand Slam champion. \u201cHe\u2019s had to go through a lot of things too. I mean, it\u2019s hard being Lleyton Hewitt\u2019s son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not his fault, it\u2019s not Lleyton\u2019s fault, it\u2019s just what it is. He\u2019s 17 years old. Let\u2019s see what happens in the next four years. It\u2019ll take him a little while. He\u2019s going to be spoken about. You\u2019re going to think he\u2019s a brat sometimes, you\u2019re going to think he\u2019s the best sometimes. That\u2019s just growing up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rafter even tipped the star to play the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/australian-open\">Australian Open<\/a> next year, and suggested he could be given a wildcard into the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019ll play the Australian Open, absolutely. He\u2019s just proven that he can play. And we don\u2019t have any juniors coming through.
