In my world, one of the biggest missing pieces with the COROS ecosystem has always been live tracking. There’s a meme about why people need it and the joke is that for endurance athletes it’s so they can find the body. Personally, I’d prefer to leave that as a joke, but I do like to be able to share my location with loved ones even if all that it amounts to is a sense of when I’ll be home. I also find it incredibly helpful as a text to send when I am leaving my house to meet someone. That way if they get there first, they can see what’s up.

(Photo: Coros)

Scheduled Live Tracking Fills a Missing Gap

COROS hasn’t had that up until now, but the implementation is actually better than others. Just like Garmin, you can share a live track link during an activity. What COROS has also added, though, is the ability to schedule it ahead of time. It’s great for an event, as it says in the marketing, but it’s also great for not dealing with sending the link after you are already on the way for the Saturday group ride.

Comprehensive Updates to Sleep Tracking

On top of that update, COROS is also overhauling its sleep tracking system. The update brings new metrics like Bedtime Consistency, which tracks how well your schedule aligns with your natural circadian rhythm, and Sleep Stress, which gauges physical and mental pressure overnight to show the impact of things like late-night training or alcohol. To make the overall Sleep Score more accurate, naps will now officially factor into the final calculation. If the automatic tracking ever gets it slightly wrong, you can edit your sleep records directly in the app to crop, extend, or even merge two separate sleep sessions if they were recorded less than two hours apart.

(Photo: Coros)

A Structural Refresh for the Heart Rate Dashboard

The Daily Heart Rate dashboard is also getting a structural refresh to provide finer detail across your daily, sleep, and exercise trends. Instead of just tracking your heart rate through the day, now you can see details about heart rate trends in specific situations. If you just want to get a sense of your HR while exercising, that’s one way to look. Alternatively, you can look at your daily heart rate and view it daily, weekly, or monthly to better analyze it, or you can do the same for your sleep heart rate.

Additional Quality-of-Life Improvements

Rounding out the firmware update is a handful of quality-of-life improvements, including the ability to route the metronome audio through connected Bluetooth headphones on the NOMAD, PACE 4, and APEX 4 watches, and the addition of two-factor authentication.
