But it has an idiosyncratic charm that fits the title character.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Independent\u00a0<\/em>was equalling gushing. \u201cAs a film about what it means to embrace what\u2019s in front of you and not what\u2019s in your mind, it\u2019s a lovely and deeply likeable work,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The<em> Radio Times<\/em> awarded it four stars and said: \u201cIt all adds up to a moving, charming, well-performed summer film told with an commendably light touch \u2013 a far cry better than a more traditional biographical film about Bourdain\u2019s life and career might have been.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Collider<\/em> described it as \u201ccrass, it\u2019s loud, it\u2019s messy\u201d and \u201cyet, you end up with something profound, beautiful, and exciting on your plate\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span><\/div>\n<p>But despite the biopic getting 100 per cent score on <em>Rotten Tomatoes<\/em> so far, others were more critical.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Guardian<\/em>\u2018s film critic Peter Bradshaw awarded the film three stars and said: \u201cThis is a strange film in some ways. It is watchable and entertaining, but its feelgood trajectory is compromised by what we know of the author.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Empire<\/em> magazine meanwhile, wrote: \u201cA hangout movie is perhaps the most fitting way for Bourdain to be brought to the screen. Though its ambitions never quite match its subject, it depicts a summer you\u2019ll be hard-pressed not to be charmed by.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Associated Press<\/em> were equally critical in their review. \u201cDirector and co-writer Matt Johnson has frustratingly taken liberties with a formative period in Bourdain\u2019s life, but still only manages to tell the story of how a callow lad became somewhat of a less callow lad after toiling in a restaurant kitchen on Cape Cod in 1975,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tony<\/em> is out in cinemas in the US on August 7 and the UK on August
