Raised in Detroit as a nightlife club kid, she first found cult recognition after being discovered by photographer Nick Knight on Instagram in 2016, following a head shave that quickly set tongues wagging across the worlds of Mugler, Rick Owens, Jean Paul Gaultier and Fenty. But modelling was only ever one notch on her belt. Music had long been pulsing underneath it all, shaped by the industrial clang of Chicago, punk abrasion and the city’s no-bedtime club culture. Through SKUZLAND, her anarchic project with producer Robot Moon Juice, Jazzelle has channelled that dynamism into something feral and full-throttle, swapping the fashion lens for blown-out synths, distorted vocals and unhinged club electronics. Since 2025, the duo have released six genre-warping singles, most recently “FREAK is WILD” alongside Shygirl, each one pushing further into their own unruly world. The project carries the same instinct that has always defined Jazzelle’s work: a two-fingers-up approach to convention, permanently stuck at max volume.

What’s your earliest memory of music having an effect on you?

I grew up in a very tense environment.
