Weatherly and Mayfield, who are both in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, played to different sides of Knight\u2019s musical personality \u2014 the pop side and the R&B side, to oversimplify. Unfortunately, she didn\u2019t tell us about working with either of them or even mention any of the songwriters\u2019 names.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cMidnight Train to Georgia,\u201d a true American classic, was the group\u2019s only No. 1 Hot 100 hit, though Knight landed another No. 1 on that chart as a featured vocalist on Dionne & Friends\u2019 \u201cThat\u2019s What Friends Are For\u201d (which she also included in the set).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n \n\tWhat\u2019s Robinson\u2019s most beloved song? There\u2019s no shortage of strong candidates: \u201cMy Girl,\u201d \u201cThe Tracks of My Tears,\u201d \u201cYou\u2019ve Really Got a Hold on Me.\u201d But based on Friday night\u2019s show the answer is \u201cOoh Baby Baby,\u201d the exquisite Miracles\u2019 ballad which made the top 10 on the Hot 100 in 1965 (and which Linda Ronstadt brought back to the top 10 in 1979). The audience\u2019s applause lasted for several minutes, after which Robinson said \u201cIt\u2019s very hard to make me speechless. You just did.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n \n\tRobinson played two songs from his 1975 album A Quiet Storm<\/em>, which as he noted helped inspire a radio format. He sang the title track (which he co-wrote with Rose Jones) and \u201cThe Agony and the Ecstasy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n \n\tWhile he was fronting The Miracles, Robinson took time to write several songs for The Temptations.
