It\u2019s not about who gets the job. We are protecting a lineage of art. A human made a decision of depth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The contentious technology has continued to divide creatives across music and film, with everyone from\u00a0<em>Backrooms<\/em>\u00a0director\u00a0Kane Parsons\u00a0to\u00a0Pope Leo XIV condemning its use.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad1 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"taboola-mid-article-title\">Recommended<\/h5>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>When speaking to <em>NPR<\/em> last year, del Toro made it clear that he wasn\u2019t remotely interested in the tech and said he\u2019d \u201crather die\u201d than use AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI, particularly generative AI \u2014 I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested,\u201d he told the publication. \u201cI\u2019m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. \u2026 The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, \u2018What is your stance on AI?\u2019 And my answer was very short. I said, \u2018I\u2019d rather die.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere during the panel, del Toro teased a documentary that explores the process of creating the original film, which features appearances fantasy director \u2013 who has previously said AI is capable of creating \u201csemi-compelling screensavers\u201d\u00a0and little else \u2013 appeared at\u00a0San Diego Comic-Con to discuss the upcoming 20th anniversary of <em>Pan\u2019s Labyrinth<\/em>, which returns to theatres in 3D and HDR for the first time on October 9.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Addressing the audience, he said he converted the film into 3D by hand and opted not to use the controversial technology. \u201cObviously, I said, \u2018Absolutely no goddamn AI,\u2019\u201d he said, which was met with cheers from the audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019re protecting is the beauty and the redeeming power of art. It\u2019s not about who gets the job. We are protecting a lineage of art. You have to do every element by hand. A human made a decision of depth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The contentious technology has continued to divide creatives across music and film, with everyone from\u00a0<em>Backrooms<\/em>\u00a0director\u00a0Kane Parsons\u00a0to\u00a0Pope Leo XIV condemning its use.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad1 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"taboola-mid-article-title\">Recommended<\/h5>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>When speaking to <em>NPR<\/em> last year, del Toro made it clear that he wasn\u2019t remotely interested in the tech and said he\u2019d \u201crather die\u201d than use AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI, particularly generative AI \u2014 I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested,\u201d he told the publication. \u201cI\u2019m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. \u2026 The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, \u2018What is your stance on AI?\u2019 And my answer was very short.
