The governing body\u2019s coffers overflow with pee penalties in some races.<\/p>\n<p>But until Wednesday, the UCI had not yet picked up on it at this Tour de France.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Learning from Giro d\u2019Italia pee-gate?<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_994465\" class=\"pom-image-wrap photo-alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Page became the first rider to be fined for inappropriate peeing at this Tour de France on stage 17.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-994465\" src=\"https:\/\/velo-cdn.outsideonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2286238254.jpg?width=2048&amp;auto=webp&amp;quality=75&amp;fit=cover\"><figcaption class=\"pom-caption\"><span class=\"article__caption\">Page became the first rider to be fined for inappropriate peeing at this Tour de France on stage 17.<\/span> (Photo: ario Belingheri\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>How come it took until stage 17 before a rider decided they just <em>had to go<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the governing body was being super-stringent now it has clicked into sanction overdrive?<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe riders learned a lesson from the recent Giro d\u2019Italia?<\/p>\n<p>The Italian tour was rocked by \u201cpee gate\u201d this May.<\/p>\n<p>After a handful of regular sanctions for \u201curinating in public,\u201d the UCI issued a further, somewhat unusual, warning on stage 9 of the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo respect the image of cycling and the Giro d\u2019Italia, the organizer and the Commissaires\u2019 Panel inform all riders that urinating into a bottle and subsequently discarding it is strictly prohibited,\u201d read the jury report after stage 9 of this year\u2019s Giro.<\/p>\n<p>Evidently the UCI has started watching where riders pee, what they might be peeing into, and what they do with the overflowing vessel.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Perhaps Tour de France toilet stops are now planned with precision accuracy to avoid public crowds <em>and<\/em> dodge the pee police.
