href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/serena-williams\">Serena Williams<\/a> has an open invite to compete at this year\u2019s Canadian Open, but it remains to be seen if the tennis great will take up the offer to play in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>Having made her return to professional tennis in the doubles alongside Victoria Mboko at the Queen\u2019s Club Championships, the former world No 1 then made her singles comeback at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>Her first singles match in nearly four years ended with a double blow as s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/serena-williams-opponent-wimbledon-defeat\">he not only lost 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 3-6 against Maya Joint<\/a>, but also suffered a knee injury that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/serena-williams-knee-injury-team-statement-coach-speaks-wimbledon\">ended her doubles campaign<\/a> alongside sister Venus Williams before it even started.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Instagram, the 44-year-old shared the devastating news: \u201cI\u2019m heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside @venuswilliams once more meant the world to me. I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee just isn\u2019t ready to compete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the injury, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/serena-williams\">Williams<\/a> added: \u201cThe photo of the syringes shows the fluid they drained from my knee after my singles match\u2026 yikes! The good news is my knee shouldn\u2019t swell or collect that much fluid again. We\u2019re monitoring her recovery from her injury on a day-to-day basis,\u201d she told L\u2019Equipe. \u201cFor the time being, no final decision has been made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Will she play singles, doubles or both?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing has been finalised.
