Remco Evenepoel and team Red Bull were the latest to be targeted for anti-doping measures at the Tour de France.<\/p>\n
Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team manager Ralph Denk told ZDF<\/em> on Tuesday morning that Evenepoel and several teammates were subject to testing by officials Monday night.<\/p>\n The news comes as the Tour de France is mired in a dope testing debate.<\/p>\n Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Poga\u010dar were tested at 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. respectively on Sunday ahead of a huge mountain stage to Plateau de Solaison.<\/p>\n Vingegaard crashed out of the stage that afternoon, prompting a discussion about the impact of lost sleep and recovery time.<\/p>\n That Vingegaard and Poga\u010dar were tested inside the 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. window that\u2019s supposedly \u201cprotected\u201d from surprise out-of-competition tests added another layer of consternation.<\/p>\n The I.T.A. testing agency was prompted to defend its controversial tests over the weekend.<\/p>\n Denk confirmed his riders were tested at 10 p.m., ahead of any supposed cut-off.<\/p>\n However, the late night disturbance could still be telling.<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, it prevents recovery,\u201d Denk told ZDF<\/em>.<\/p>\n Tuesday\u2019s stage 16 time trial is poised to shake up the GC before the race hits the Alps.<\/p>\n Evenepoel, who moved up to second on GC on Sunday, is top favorite for the victory. His teammate Florian Lipowitz is tangled into a fight for the top-5.<\/p>\n Evenepoel raised the topic of overnight dope tests after his standout win over Poga\u010dar and Isaac del Toro on Sunday, suggesting he\u2019d go to bed extra early to avoid any disturbed sleep.<\/p>\n \u201cI always try to go to sleep as early as possible, because a regular doping test can also take place from 6. That\u2019s already quite early.
