{"id":2054555,"date":"2026-07-20T13:07:32","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T10:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/analyse.optim.biz\/?p=2054555"},"modified":"2026-07-20T13:07:32","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T10:07:32","slug":"tadej-pogacar-and-uae-are-hogging-nearly-all-the-tour-de-france-prize-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/analyse.optim.biz\/?p=2054555","title":{"rendered":"Tadej Poga\u010dar and UAE Are Hogging Nearly All the Tour de France Prize Money"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[analyse_image type=&#8221;featured&#8221; src=&#8221;https:\/\/velo-cdn.outsideonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Z8D_9927.jpg&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-wrap fp-contentTarget\">\n<div class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"mb-base-loose flex flex-wrap gap-(--spacing-base)\">\n<div class=\"fp-remove flex items-center justify-start gap-(--spacing-base-tight)\"><span class=\"font-utility-2 font-bold text-primary\">Andrew Hood<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"pub-date font-utility-2 text-secondary\">Updated July 20, 2026 09:15AM<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Tadej Poga\u010dar and UAE Emirates-XRG aren\u2019t just crushing the 2026 Tour de France, they\u2019re cashing in as well.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks into the Tour, Poga\u010dar and his superteam UAE squad have banked more than double the second-place squad.<\/p>\n<p>Pogi\u2019s troops have earned \u20ac124,530 so far, thanks to the team\u2019s five stage wins \u2014 four from Poga\u010dar and one from Isaac del Toro \u2014 as well as consistency across all Tour categories.<\/p>\n<p>Lidl-Trek sits a distant second at \u20ac58,400, less than half of UAE\u2019s haul, while Soudal Quick-Step and Decathlon-CMA CGM round out the top four, both hovering in the low \u20ac40,000s (<em>see list below<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the scale is Team Picnic PostNL, which brings up the rear with a paltry \u20ac5,270.<\/p>\n<p>Prize money is awarded daily for stage winners, GC placings, jersey rankings, and other random <em>primes<\/em> across the Tour route.<\/p>\n<p>Total prize money distributed so far across all 23 teams stands at \u20ac606,000, meaning UAE alone has claimed more than a fifth of the entire pot.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>That\u2019s a stark reminder of how lopsided prize money can be in the superteam era when the richest teams can afford to hire the best riders.<\/p>\n<p>With one week of racing still to go, that gap has plenty of room still to grow.<\/p>\n<p>The Tour de France will pay out roughly \u20ac2.3 million total in Paris, with the largest sums still to come for the yellow jersey, the general classification, and the other major jerseys.<\/p>\n<p>Prize money doesn\u2019t cover rider salaries \u2014 that comes from multi-million-dollar team sponsors \u2014 but it is split among riders and staff at the end of the Tour.<\/p>\n<p>So for teams that haven\u2019t won stages or have a high-placed GC rider, there won\u2019t be many bonuses to cash out once the race hits Paris.<\/p>\n<p>With Jonas Vingegaard out of the Tour after Sunday\u2019s crash, Visma-Lease a Bike \u2014 now fifth with \u20ac37,050 \u2014 is looking at one of its worst Tours ever for prize money, since the Dane won\u2019t be around to collect a final podium payout.<\/p>\n<p>With six stages left to go in the 2026 Tour, Poga\u010dar looks like a lock for the yellow and polka-dot jerseys.
