it had passed legislation to nationalise British Steel, previously owned by China\u2019s Jingye Group, to protect the country\u2019s steelmaking capacity after Jingye moved to shut the company\u2019s blast furnaces.<br \/>\n    <\/h2>\n<div class=\"c-article-content c-article-content--business js-article-content\">\n<p>China condemned the UK&#8217;s decision to nationalise British Steel, saying it \u201cfirmly opposes and is strongly dissatisfied with the British government&#8217;s decision\u201d and warning that the move had damaged Chinese companies\u2019 confidence in investing in the UK, safeguard a \u201cvital national capability\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The UK government took operational control of British Steel\u2019s Scunthorpe operations in 2025 after Jingye considered closing the plant\u2019s blast furnaces. However, the Chinese group retained ownership of the company, limiting the government\u2019s ability to determine its future.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement published on Friday, China\u2019s Ministry of Commerce said: \u201cBritish Steel had been incurring losses for years before its acquisition by Jingye.
