is the sign of a true champion and not many have managed to claim Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>There are several reasons for this, including the surface change from grass back to hardcourts. Players have to play on three different surfaces in two months in the summer months, from clay, to grass, to hard.<\/p>\n<p>The period between the end of Wimbledon and the start of the US Open is notoriously tricky too, with two Masters events place between the two Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open take place between Wimbledon and the US Open, so it can become a real struggle for the top players.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, eight male players are part of the exclusive club to win Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year.<\/p>\n<h2>Male players to win Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Rod Laver \u2013 1969<\/li>\n<li>Jimmy Connors \u2013 1974, 1982<\/li>\n<li>John McEnroe \u2013 1981, 1984<\/li>\n<li>Boris Becker, 1989<\/li>\n<li>Pete Sampras, 1993, 1995<\/li>\n<li>Roger Federer, 2004-07<\/li>\n<li>Rafael Nadal, 2010<\/li>\n<li>Novak Djokovic \u2013 2011, 2015<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As is customary with most records in tennis, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Rod-Laver\">Rod Laver<\/a> was the first player to achieve the feat in 1969. He defeated John Newcombe to win his fourth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/wimbledon\">Wimbledon<\/a>, before beating Tony Roche at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/us-open\">US Open<\/a> to win the Grand Slam for the second time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jimmy-connors\">Jimmy Connors<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/john-mcenroe\">John McEnroe<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/pete-sampras\">Pete Sampras<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/roger-federer\">Roger Federer<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Novak Djokovic<\/a> are the players who have achieved the feat on more than one occasion.<\/p>\n<h2>More tennis news<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/serena-williams-coach-proposes-radical-grand-slam-overhaul-novak-djokovics-wimbledon-exit\">Serena Williams\u2019 coach proposes radical Grand Slam overhaul after Novak Djokovic\u2019s Wimbledon exit<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/alexander-zverev-joins-roger-federer-in-making-unwanted-history-after-wimbledon-final-defeat\">Alexander Zverev joins Roger Federer in making unwanted history after Wimbledon final defeat<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Djokovic was the last man to achieve the feat by doing so in 2015. He beat Federer in both finals to claim Wimbledon and the US Open back-t0-back.<\/p>\n<p>All three of the \u2018big three\u2019 \u2013 Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic \u2013 managed the feat and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/andy-murray\">Andy Murray<\/a> came close to joining them in 2012. He won the US Open, but lost in the Wimbledon final to Federer.<\/p>\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Jannik Sinner<\/a> have come close in recent years, but they have fallen at the final hurdle.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz reached the final of Wimbledon in 2025, before going on to claim the title at the Flushing Meadows event.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner, meanwhile, won Wimbledon in 2025 but lost to Alcaraz in the final of the US Open.
