Since the action unfolds in a small fishing town in Alaska, where the sun never sets, Nolan&apos;s &apos;sunshine&apos; noir eschews shadows for blinding light.\nThe beauty of Insomnia, which stars Al Pacino, is that it never cheats or dumbs down its story, and it always keeps us on Pacino&apos;s level, as his character tries to both do a good cop&apos;s job and cover up his own misconduct and while fighting off the worst case of insomnia ever. The ambition, execution, and craftsmanship are all to be admired. Interstellar is a slightly divisive film though ultimately the viewers takeaway will likely come down to their emotional response.\u00a0\nThis story, about a last ditch effort to save humanity by using a wormhole to search for a new home planet, boasts superb world creation as well as some heady notions about time, which are mostly based on scientific theory, and to date it stands and one Nolan&apos;s most heartfelt projects (for a director who admits that love and warmth aren&apos;t his strong suits).\n\" class=\"progressive-image jsx-2896921488 image aspect-ratio aspect-ratio-16-9 jsx-2605834259 jsx-2338608387 hover-opacity\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-cy=\"progressive-image\"><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Nolan said that he knows the truth of his films \u2014 he has to for them to make sense as he\u2019s making them. But he won\u2019t give the audience the answers they want. Instead, he\u2019s keeping them to himself.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cI have to know the answer,\u201d he said \u201cI have to know what I believe the answer to be. And then, otherwise, the ambiguities won&#8217;t be productive. And I said, \u2018Well, it&#8217;s meant to be up to you. But I think it&#8217;s this, this, this.\u2019 And he took me aside, and he&#8217;s like, \u2018Nobody heard the first part where they said it&#8217;s meant to be up to you. All they hear is what you say. Your interpretation trumps everything. You can never do that again.\u2019 And he was right. The ambition, execution, and craftsmanship are all to be admired. Interstellar is a slightly divisive film though ultimately the viewers takeaway will likely come down to their emotional response.\u00a0\nThis story, about a last ditch effort to save humanity by using a wormhole to search for a new home planet, boasts superb world creation as well as some heady notions about time, which are mostly based on scientific theory, and to date it stands and one Nolan&apos;s most heartfelt projects (for a director who admits that love and warmth aren&apos;t his strong suits).\n\" class=\"progressive-image jsx-2896921488 image aspect-ratio aspect-ratio-16-9 jsx-2605834259 jsx-2338608387 hover-opacity\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-cy=\"progressive-image\"><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Nolan said that he knows the truth of his films \u2014 he has to for them to make sense as he\u2019s making them. But he won\u2019t give the audience the answers they want. Instead, he\u2019s keeping them to himself.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cI have to know the answer,\u201d he said \u201cI have to know what I believe the answer to be. And then, otherwise, the ambiguities won&#8217;t be productive. And he came with us to the Venice Film Festival, where we premiered it. And right afterwards, I was asked a bunch of questions. And they asked me about the ambiguity of the end. And I said, \u2018Well, it&#8217;s meant to be up to you. But I think it&#8217;s this, this, this.\u2019 And he took me aside, and he&#8217;s like, \u2018Nobody heard the first part where they said it&#8217;s meant to be up to you. All they hear is what you say. Your interpretation trumps everything. You can never do that again.\u2019 And he was right. And I never have since then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">While Inception is perhaps Nolan\u2019s most famous \u2018ending explained\u2019 movie, expect plenty of ambiguity in The Odyssey, too. Nolan leaves plenty to the viewer\u2019s imagination, including the reliability of each character\u2019s experience.
