(Photo by Roberto Ricciuti\/Redferns)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After the gig, Nicola Sturgeon took to Instagram to reflect on its significance to her, calling the evening \u201cvery special\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She looked back to 1999, when she watched the band play Princes Street Gardens as a \u201cbrand new\u201d MSP, and said to seem them 27 years later, having now stepped down as an MSP, was \u201ca real full circle moment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-2\" class=\"lazy-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWhat made it extra special was that in the intervening years, the amazing Shirley Manson has become a friend. She is an absolute powerhouse and personifies strong, resilient, fearless womanhood. Watching her perform last night at the peak of her powers was a privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garbage have a run of European dates coming up this week, and are scheduled to make further stops in London, Belfast, and Dublin on July 14, 17 and 18, respectively. Find any remaining tickets here.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2025,\u00a0the band wrapped their last-ever US tour, having indicated that they were \u201cunlikely to play many of the cities\u201d on the run \u201cever again\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to\u00a0<em>NME<\/em> at the time, Manson opened up about the crushing and \u201cabusive\u201d financial strains of the music industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow what you have are musicians who are independently wealthy \u2013 maybe they come from a wealthy family \u2013 and they can start to carve out a career for themselves in the music industry,\u201d she told us. \u201cYou have the old guard who made records before 1995; they themselves can survive. (Photo by Roberto Ricciuti\/Redferns)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe have never said that we are stopping playing entirely \u2013 despite how some of the media has chosen to report on this,\u201d she clarified. \u201cWe have made the decision that our touring will be a different model from here on out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did the maths. I think this is a fascinating statistic: we played about 40 shows in North America, and Billy [Bush, husband] is such a nerd and did a bunch of equations to realise that we could have earned exactly the same amount from the entire tour if we\u2019d only played 10 shows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would have been approximately five shows on the east coast, and five shows on the West. Instead, we went into the middle of North America and toured all the way through it because we wanted to say farewell to a lot of the places we know we will never go back to because we can\u2019t afford to go there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we would have earned the same amount of 10 shows as 40. Let that sink in. I don\u2019t think the world has yet fully grasped how insane the economics are. hits like \u2018Vow\u2019, \u2018Stupid Girl\u2019, \u2018Special\u2019 and \u2018Push It\u2019, as well as a cover of The Cure\u2019s \u2018Lovesong\u2019, suited and booted for the occasion in their kilts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>When the gig was announced last year, frontwoman and former NME Icon award winner Shirley Manson said she\u2019d be bringing the band home, \u201cfor what most likely will be our last headline show in Scotland\u201d, saying it felt \u201cboth poignant and triumphant\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, she said the evening felt like \u201cthe culmination of 40 years in music\u201d. She is an absolute powerhouse and personifies strong, resilient, fearless womanhood. Watching her perform last night at the peak of her powers was a privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garbage have a run of European dates coming up this week, and are scheduled to make further stops in London, Belfast, and Dublin on July 14, 17 and 18, respectively. Find any remaining tickets here.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2025,\u00a0the band wrapped their last-ever US tour, having indicated that they were \u201cunlikely to play many of the cities\u201d on the run \u201cever again\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to\u00a0<em>NME<\/em> at the time, Manson opened up about the crushing and \u201cabusive\u201d financial strains of the music industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow what you have are musicians who are independently wealthy \u2013 maybe they come from a wealthy family \u2013 and they can start to carve out a career for themselves in the music industry,\u201d she told us. \u201cYou have the old guard who made records before 1995; they themselves can survive. I think this is a fascinating statistic: we played about 40 shows in North America, and Billy [Bush, husband] is such a nerd and did a bunch of equations to realise that we could have earned exactly the same amount from the entire tour if we\u2019d only played 10 shows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would have been approximately five shows on the east coast, and five shows on the West. Instead, we went into the middle of North America and toured all the way through it because we wanted to say farewell to a lot of the places we know we will never go back to because we can\u2019t afford to go there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we would have earned the same amount of 10 shows as 40. Let that sink in. I don\u2019t think the world has yet fully grasped how insane the economics are.
