This is true on all platforms, but the interface has more power on PC, in that it acts as a DRM layer on top of its existing functions.<\/p>\n<p>Upon purchasing a Ubisoft game, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubisoft.com\/en-ca\/game\/assassins-creed\/black-flag-resynced\">a one-time internet connection is required to authenticate the copy<\/a>, which is done through Connect. The outage appears to have lasted about an hour, but the problem is that it took the offline capability along with it, which obviously isn&#8217;t how an offline mode should work.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"injection_placeholder\" data-position=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Upon realising they were unable to play Black Flag Resynced offline, players rushed to <a href=\"https:\/\/steamcommunity.com\/app\/3751950\/discussions\/0\/572669207837294096\/?ctp=1\">the Steam Forums<\/a> and  Reddit, where <a href=\"https:\/\/old.reddit.com\/r\/gaming\/comments\/1uu0nv1\/ubisoft_connect_went_down_locking_pc_players_out\/\">a thread about the issue<\/a> has amassed over 15,000 upvotes since &#8211; a lot. Many in the comments also recalled having a similar experience with other games using Ubisoft Connect. Ubisoft itself has not addressed the issue on its social channels, nor responded to the Steam and Reddit threads.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Resynced has run into controversy. The game set sail  with a bundle of cosmetic microtransactions that, together, cost more than the price of the full game. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/assassins-creed-black-flag-resynced-steam-review-bomb-dlc\">Players were unhappy <\/a>despite this approach being a Ubisoft mainstay.
