The track is the third to be taken from the New York band\u2019s forthcoming ninth album, \u2018This Mirror Weighs A Ton\u2019. as their replacement drummer while usual sticksman Sam Fogarino sits out their tour to recover from surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Despite playing as Iron Lung, the band didn\u2019t play the new track at Thursday\u2019s gig, instead leaning on songs from \u2018Turn On the Bright Lights\u2019 and \u2018Antics\u2019 \u2013 check out footage and a full setlist below.<\/p>\n<blockquote Chemistry\u2019, \u2018Wings on Fire\u2019 \u2013 \u00a0which the band debuted live earlier this year \u2013 and \u2018Obstacle 1\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>They only made one alteration to the setlist from the intimate warm-up gig, with the addition of \u2018The Rover\u2019 in place of \u2018Roland\u2019 the only difference.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Interpol at Mad Cool Festival 2026 released \u2018Iron City\u2019, Paul Banks said: \u201cThat song is more a conversation between the human narrator and the future artificial intelligence that\u2019s running things. Will this matriarchal tech be benevolent or angry? It switches between singing to it and it singing to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he fears AI, Banks responded: \u201cNo. AI replacing art can only base itself on what\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0made, so without new stuff it will devolve into a\u00a0simulacra\u00a0and have no bearing on the human experience. We need to be\u00a0feeding it\u00a0new real stuff for it to be doing anything of real note.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s\u00a0always been shit art\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0purposefully formulaic, now\u00a0there will just be a computer trying to play the formula. When people get bored of the formula,\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0going to need a person to make the next leap and then the AI can mimic that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cIt\u2019ll\u00a0be human creativity\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0always ahead of the curve.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0the young artists\u2019 job to work in reaction to the status quo, so\u00a0they\u2019ll\u00a0always be breaking new ground that the computer\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0have the human side to make something that feels essential. In a military space is where\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0all a bit sketchier.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This Mirror Weighs\u00a0A\u00a0Ton\u2019 was produced by\u00a0Andrew Wyatt [ROSAL\u00cdA,\u00a0Charli XCX] and mixed by Dave Fridmann [Sleater-Kinney,\u00a0MGMT], and\u00a0utilises\u00a0\u201cstrings, woodwinds, layered vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar and experimental sound design\u201d to their signature sense of atmosphere and inescapable rhythms.<\/p>\n<p>Interpol signed to Partisan Records earlier this year,\u00a0and they\u00a0will also return to the UK this summer for\u00a0a special appearance at All Points East x Outbreak in London on August 23, supporting\u00a0Deftones\u00a0on a bill that also includes\u00a0IDLES,\u00a0Amyl &amp; released \u2018Iron City\u2019, Paul Banks said: \u201cThat song is more a conversation between the human narrator and the future artificial intelligence that\u2019s running things. Will this matriarchal tech be benevolent or angry? It switches between singing to it and it singing to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he fears AI, Banks responded: \u201cNo. AI replacing art can only base itself on what\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0made, so without new stuff it will devolve into a\u00a0simulacra\u00a0and have no bearing on the human experience. We need to be\u00a0feeding it\u00a0new real stuff for it to be doing anything of real note.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s\u00a0always been shit art\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0purposefully formulaic, now\u00a0there will just be a computer trying to play the formula.
