Wanting to depart from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/tags\/andrew-salgado\/\">his narrative-driven process<\/a> in favor of subject matter allowing for greater intuition and spontaneity, the artist began to render vibrant bouquets in his signature gestural marks. Color ripples across each canvas, presenting the stylized florals in various states of blossom and decay.<\/p>\n<p>Salgado is an avid, eclectic reader, and while his still lifes operate at a remove from his typically reference-rich compositions, they still contain snippets of texts and art history. Awash in blues of all shades, \u201cThe Prince,\u201d for example, emerges from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gargoyles_(novel)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a Thomas Bernhard novel<\/a> that follows an aristocratic protagonist\u2019s descent into paranoia and obsession. In Salgado\u2019s painting, the singular, focused color palette and flowers splayed in every direction mirror the frenetic energy of a message left on the table.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/salgado-1.jpg\" class=\"swipebox\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-475772\" title=\"\u201cDear Theo\u201d (2026)\" data-rl_title=\"\u201cDear Theo\u201d (2026)\" data-rl_caption=\"\u201cDear Theo\u201d (2026)\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2419\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/salgado-1.jpg\" alt=\"a gestural still life of sun flowers in a vase rendered in bright bold colors\" class=\"wp-image-475773\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cDear Theo\u201d (2026)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s also \u201cDear Theo,\u201d which centers on a bright cluster of sunflowers synonymous with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/tags\/vincent-van-gogh\/\">Vincent van Gogh<\/a>. Like the title, a scribbled note at the bottom right is addressed to Theo, the Dutch painter\u2019s brother and longtime financial supporter. \u201cTo be sufficiently heated up to melt those golds and those flower tones, not just anybody can do that,\u201d Vincent famously wrote Theo. \u201cIt takes an individual\u2019s whole and entire energy and attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being attuned to one\u2019s energy and attention is also critical in this body of work. Rather than follow a rigid, predetermined path, the artist opted for more freedom and the ability to latch onto a thought or association and allow it, and the paint, to lead.<\/p>\n<p><em>Glory!<\/em> is on view from July 16 to August 15 at <a href=\"https:\/\/beerslondon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BEERS London<\/a>.
