When the Atlanta rap dignitary drops, fans know what to expect: hedonistic endeavors, toxic love, battles with drug addiction, opulent flexes in lavish locations and trap glory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t feel like nobody needs to be like me\u2026 exactly how I am. I only can do this,\u201d Future told <em>Billboard<\/em> in 2022. \u201cI\u2019m the only one that can do this s\u2013t, you know what I\u2019m saying? That\u2019s from my personal life to musically. I\u2019m really one of none. I can live like this. Pluto set the bar high when he claimed that the \u201calbum of the century\u201d was on the way with his 10th studio LP. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFuture\u2019s set the standard in his own right as a mystifying commercial titan and prolific superstar with 11 No. 1s atop the Billboard 200 and a staggering 229 Billboard Hot 100 entries, which includes 16 top 10 hits and three No. 1s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWe\u2019d be remiss to leave his mixtape lore out of the equation. Mixtape Pluto became a persona in its own right, and he delivered several classics and reached a peak in the mid-2010s where fans started to believe he really might not be from planet Earth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs we attempt to rank all of Future\u2019s solo studio albums, including his pair with Metro Boomin in 2024, remember that his decorated mixtapes and collaborative projects with the likes of Drake, Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert and Young Thug aren\u2019t accounted for on this list. Future has proven to carry a project by himself, but has also been a super collaborator throughout his career. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThere are still plenty of standout moments sprinkled throughout the project. He implements a nursery rhyme counting flow on \u201cOne Two,\u201d builds his dream girl on \u201cBuild a Bitch\u201d and takes us back to his classic \u201cKing\u2019s Dead\u201d flow while inhaling a hit of helium on \u201c2018.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cTank Top Pluto\u201d births another Future persona and \u201cKonnichiwa\u201d delves into his romantic escapades traveling through Japan. Wheezy\u2019s gloomy production sets the table for Future to brag about branding his women with AP watches and trying to avoid being toxic, but confesses he\u2019ll always comes back (\u201cstay away from that toxic shit, but I can\u2019t deny it\u201d). Future\u2019s love for the game needs to be studied. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>High Off Life<\/em> (2020)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFuture\u2019s music isn\u2019t meant for a society frozen by the COVID-19 pandemic. <em>High Off Life<\/em> is preceded by a strong run of singles before the world shut down. He opens up about suffering from paranoia with Lil Durk on \u201cLast Name\u201d and reunites with Drake for their jubilant smash \u201cLife Is Good.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile he promised that <em>High Off Life<\/em> was the start of a new chapter, the album contains plenty of the same tricks and themes of classic Future: chasing various women, drug-fueled nights and selling dope. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFuture\u2019s been a more than capable collaborator throughout his career, and he collides with NBA Young Boy (\u201cTrillionaires\u201d) and Travis Scott (\u201cSolitaires\u201d) for a pair of Hot 100 top 40 hits. But it\u2019s worth circling back to a bar from \u201cPosted With My Demons\u201d that feels so Future it hurts. \u201cRich n\u2014a f\u2013kin\u2019 on the baddest b\u2013ch\/ I still fuck a average b\u2013ch\/ I be on some savage s\u2013t,\u201d he raps about not being above his carnal desires.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>Honest<\/em> (2014)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen you look at\u00a0<em>Honest<\/em>\u2018s\u00a0album credits, the usual suspects are there. Mike Will Made-It\u2019s genius gave Future his first top 10 hit with\u00a0\u201cLove Me,\u201d while Metro Boomin, in the process of evolving into a dominant force in hip-hop, gives a knock to the piano-driven title track. Sonny Digital, TM88, Southside and even Organized Noize from his Dungeon Family past are all there. But upon its 2014 release, critics referred to it\u00a0as a flop.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \"><em>Honest\u00a0<\/em>is an ambitious album, and at times,\u00a0maybe too ambitious. While\u00a0Future\u2019s appeal\u00a0has always been his gritty melodies, his sophomore album is glossed up by top-dollar and inorganic features (Wiz Khalifa, Ye, Andre 3000). But Future keeps his core fans happy with bangers like \u201cCovered n Money,\u201d \u201cSpecial\u201d\u00a0and \u201cKarate Chop\u201d \u2014 which see him brazen, introspective, and narcotic-driven, respectively. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor every one of those tracks, though, we see him testing out forced collaborations like the Ye-assisted \u201cI Won\u201d or the head-scratching ode to his Dungeon Family days on \u201cBenz Friends\u201d with Andre 3000. Not to mention the distant memory \u201cReal &amp; True,\u201d featuring Miley Cyrus, which luckily evaporated before it made\u00a0the album\u2019s tracklist. Nonetheless, Future\u2019s growth from\u00a0<em>Pluto<\/em>\u00a0is noticeable on\u00a0<em>Honest<\/em>, from the expansive production to Auto-Tune control and songwriting.<em>\u2013 J.R.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>We Still Don\u2019t Trust You<\/em> (2024)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLess than a month after <em>We Don\u2019t Trust You<\/em>, Future and Metro spun the block and dropped a second nuke on the rap game with <em>We Still Don\u2019t Trust You<\/em>. The sequel signaled the return of <em>HNDRXX<\/em>: Future gets into his singing bag, which kicks off with the disco-leaning self-titled opener featuring The Weeknd and leads into the glossy \u201cDrink N Dance.\u201d The darkness is over, and <em>We Still Don\u2019t Trust You<\/em> is a more jovial and gluttonous ride than the first installment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>Pluto<\/em> (2012)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt was 2011. Two years after Jay Z almost single-handedly washed away the credibility of AutoTune in the hip-hop market, and its most popular pioneer,\u00a0T-Pain. The days of pitch-correction\u00a0seemed pretty much over, only used faintly by other Southern rappers like Travis Porter and Roscoe Dash. Future quietly emerged on the scene with the heavily Auto-Tuned, breakout YC hit \u201cRacks\u201d \u2014 you almost can\u2019t recognize Future\u2019s voice on it \u2014 and from there it was off to the races. \u201cTony Montana\u201d\u00a0won over the streets, and the\u00a0contribution from\u00a0Drake from his debut only added to his visibility. It would set the stage for the release of his 2012 debut, the space-y\u00a0<em>Pluto<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile he was accepted by critics and ATL\u2019s most interesting, rising talent, looking back, the clunky album fortunately didn\u2019t do any damage to Future\u2019s career. There are a few bright spots where creativity shines through\u00a0but it\u2019s quickly smothered by the attempt at crossover magic. The natural trap anthem \u201cMagic,\u201d\u00a0which scored Future his first lead hit on the Hot 100 charts, is as creative as hooks come \u2014 but comes after the questionable \u201cAstronaut Chick.\u201d The trifecta of \u201cSame Damn Time,\u201d\u00a0\u201cLong Live the Pimp,\u201d\u00a0and \u201cHomicide\u201d pushes the offense a bit more, but then\u00a0comes \u201cTurn on the Lights\u201d\u00a0and \u201cYou Deserve It\u201d\u00a0to remind folks of his burgeoning star\u00a0power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \"><em>Pluto<\/em>\u2019s biggest problems come from the overall sequencing and blatant attempts at crossover success, which eventually would come to fruition through the platinum single \u201cTurn on the Lights.\u201d\u00a0The problem was repaired on the jam-packed re-release <em>Pluto 3D<\/em>, which featured new takes on old songs and additional records to fill out the original\u2019s weird tracklisting. Future\u2019s debut wasn\u2019t a home run, but fans\u00a0knew there was something worth investing in. <em>\u2013 J.R.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>I Never Liked You<\/em> (2022)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen Future announced <em>I NEVER LIKED YOU<\/em>, many thought he\u2019d be leaning into his toxic ways coming off a fractured relationship, but that wasn\u2019t solely the case. Things were darker and Future was just numb to it all. He was also looking for his respect as a torchbearer of Atlanta trap for the past decade, with plenty of sons running around rap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen Future\u2019s good on his 2022 album, he\u2019s great. The project\u2019s hits still hold up four years later and should remain in rotation for his next tour. Just go back to the braggadocious \u201cI\u2019M DAT N****,\u201d Drake and Tems lifting the vulnerable \u201cWAIT FOR U,\u201d \u201cPUFFIN ON ZOOTIEZ\u201d and having Lil Baby and 42 Dugg turn the clock back for \u201cLIKE ME.\u201d <em>\u2013 M.S.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>EVOL<\/em> (2016)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \"><em>EVOL<\/em> is quite honestly the odd sibling out of Future\u2019s discography. Wedged in between the powerful <em>DS2<\/em> and the history-making back-to-back effort of <em>Future<\/em>\u00a0and <em>HNDRXX<\/em>, <em>EVOL<\/em> now feels like a\u00a0transition point between the rapper\u2019s two discernible creative peaks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile it hosts the top 20, double-platinum banger \u201cLow Life\u201d (featuring The Weeknd) and the hit \u201cWicked,\u201d\u00a0the project doesn\u2019t feature the growth or drastic change in commentary that the Future Hive has\u00a0gotten used to over his\u00a0year-plus streak of wins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis isn\u2019t to say that <em>EVOL <\/em>is bad. The triumphant crooning of \u201cLil Haiti Baby,\u201d the percolating \u201cPhoto Copied\u201d and the rockstar vibes of \u201cFly S\u2013t Only\u201d are enough to keep the album pushing along. But overall it lacks the character, ambition, and style the other projects\u00a0possess. Even the title <em>EVOL<\/em> feels like a forced attempt to tap into\u00a0his brooding, emotionless character as heard on\u00a0<em>DS2<\/em>. The overall project feels non-canon in a sense, but still managed to provide him his third No. 1\u00a0on the Billboard 200 in seven months. <em>\u2013 J.R.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>The WIZRD<\/em> (2019)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tComing off a torrid mixtape run, a bona fide collab album with Drake, <em>DS2<\/em>, and the versatility of the <em>HNDRXX<\/em> and <em>Future<\/em> album double-up in 2017, Future could do no wrong. He returned with <em>The WIZRD<\/em> \u2014 a nickname given to him by a late uncle \u2014in 2019, which serves as an amalgamation of the personas that make Future great. The pain, heartbreak and addiction fuel his syrupy trap brilliance, but the Billboard 200-topping album doesn\u2019t quite live up to some of its greatest predecessors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>We Don\u2019t Trust You<\/em> (2024)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt was only a matter of time before Metro Boomin and Future locked in for a full collab project, after laying the foundation as trap architects for rap in the 2010s and teaming up on plenty of brilliant tracks throughout the last 15 years. Expectations were through the roof, but Metro and Future delivered a solid balance of their traditional sound with mainstream appeal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThey invited plenty of heavy hitters to join the party, including Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Rick Ross and of course, Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick\u2019s guest verse on \u201cLike That\u201d hit like a tsunami, swallowing all conversation around the album, and sparking a colossal clash with Drake. It\u2019s tough to think back to <em>We Don\u2019t Trust You\u00a0<\/em>without remembering Lamar\u2019s verse-of-the-year candidate. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>Future<\/em> (2017)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt had\u00a0been an unusually quiet 12 months for hip-hop\u2019s\u00a0favorite codeine-sipping superstar. Following the release of <em>EVOL<\/em>,\u00a0Future\u2019s insane output finally slowed down. His contribution to \u201cX\u201d\u00a0brought 21 Savage from the trap house to the radio, and his power hook on DJ Khaled\u2019s \u201cI Got the Keys\u201d was invigorated by the stealthy flow of Jay-Z. It was a stark contrast from the prior three years of FutureMania running wild in hip-hop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThen, without the standard album fluff and fanfare, <em>Future<\/em>\u00a0was announced \u2014 and without fail, interest in the trap star hit a new peak. The first of back-to-back releases, <em>Future<\/em>\u00a0felt like a return to basics of sorts \u2014 but now with a whole new perspective. Imagine the Future of the <em>Streetz Calling <\/em>or<em> Dirty Sprite <\/em>mixtapes, now with hit-making sensibilities and a bolder, unapologetic charisma.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe beefy 17-song tracklist\u00a0does proves to be a bit of a gift and a curse. With plenty of ammunition in the tank, he\u2019s able to fire off instant bangers like \u201cRent Money,\u201d \u201cMask Off,\u201d\u00a0\u201cOutta Time\u201d\u00a0and \u201cPoppin Tags.\u201d He even finds room to be contemplative on the final tandem of tracks\u00a0\u201cWhen I Was Broke\u201d\u00a0and \u201cFeds Did a Sweep.\u201d\u00a0Still, throughout the journey, the spark dims a little through similar production styles, repetitive concepts and a few stray unnecessary skits \u2014 which keeps Future\u2019s self-titled set from the absolute top tier of his rankings. <em>\u2013 J.R.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item-wrap lrv-u-margin-b-2\">\n<article class=\"pmc-fallback-list-item\">\n<h2><em>HNDRXX<\/em> (2017)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pmc-not-a-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYou\u2019ve got to be incredibly bold to release two albums in back-to-back weeks, but the risk was validated. For the last couple of years, Future has been on and off in promising a project filled with melodic numbers. Despite the trap king\u2019s bulletproof persona, as exuded on the thrilling <em>DS2<\/em> and its tough-talking follow-up <em>Future<\/em>, there\u2019s always been a hint of his sensitive side lurking. Beneath the lavish tales of \u201crich sex\u201d\u00a0and his bold proclamations like \u201cI don\u2019t care if they\u2019re real sisters\u201d has been a vulnerable artist, and <em>HNDRXX<\/em> unleashed it to the world. Less about ego, and a little bit more humility \u2014 well, almost. \u201cMy Collection\u201d still reminisces about his string of Hollywood flings, allegedly including Larsa Pippen\u00a0(wife of Scottie Pippen) and his ex Ciara, which makes the music that much more authentic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut he slowly spirals into lamenting about his lifestyle on \u201cDamage\u201d and \u201cUse Me,\u201d drugs on \u201cHallucinating\u201d and fast women, leading to the uncharacteristic album closer \u201cSorry.\u201d The young, fast, reckless lifestyle slows down for provocative thought, and as a result, <em>Future<\/em> becomes one of the finest works of his career.
