She was subsequently placed in a medically induced coma to help her recovery.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Tyler\u2019s family issued an update on her health via a statement\u00a0on her official website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBonnie\u2019s family and team would like to update everyone on how she is progressing with her recovery,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal. Although her condition is improving it is a slow process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The message continued: \u201cHer doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to her health issues, Tyler had been set to embark on a European tour featuring numerous gigs throughout 2026.<\/p>\n<p>She had been due to perform at the Sunshine Festival in Worcester this summer, along with a number of European dates, and was also booked to perform at Cardiff\u2019s Utilita Arena on December 17.<\/p>\n<p>But her family explained that all of Tyler\u2019s scheduled live dates for this summer were cancelled or postponed until next year, adding: \u201cThis will affect every current show until the end of August.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2026_bonnie_tyler_getty_2000x1270.jpg\" alt width=\"1904\" height=\"1270\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bonnie Tyler CREDIT: Aldara Zarraoa\/Redferns<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her final full live concert was at the O2 Shepherd\u2019s Bush Empire in London on March 19.<\/p>\n<p>Wales Secretary Jo Stevens was one of the first to pay tribute to the singer on social media following her death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo sad to hear of the death of @BonnieTOfficial. A Welsh music icon, Grammy and Brit award winner and the sound of my teenage years,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>First Minister of Wales, Rhun ap Iorwerth also paid his respects. He said: \u201cI am very sorry to hear about Bonnie Tyler\u2019s death. Wales has lost one of its greatest icons, who brought joy to audiences around the world through her music. It is shocking news to wake up to you this morning and I send my love to her family at this very sad time. RIP Bonnie\u2026. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose cousin was married to Tyler, took to Instagram to express her sadness.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote: \u201cMy heart is broken with the news that our dearest Bonnie Tyler has passed away. Bonnie was married to my cousin and has been such a part of my life. We are photographed here together the night before my wedding. So sang and rocked it at my wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actress added: \u201cAn extraordinary woman with vocals to match. A one of kind artist, who so easily could have been a comedian because she was one of the funniest people I ever met. Thank you Bonnie for the joy you brought so many. Sleep tight beautiful lady. We shall forever \u2018Keep A Welcome In The Hillsides\u2019 of Wales for you. Sending my love to Robert and the family. td-fix-index\">\n<p>Bonnie Tyler has died \u201cunexpectedly\u201d after an illness in Portugal at the age of 75.<\/p>\n<p>A message on the \u2018Total Eclipse Of The Heart\u2019 singer\u2019s official website confirmed the news which read: \u201cBonnie\u2019s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It comes after she underwent emergency surgery in Portugal last month. She was subsequently placed in a medically induced coma to help her recovery.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Tyler\u2019s family issued an update on her health via a statement\u00a0on her official website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBonnie\u2019s family and team would like to update everyone on how she is progressing with her recovery,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal. Although her condition is improving it is a slow process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The message continued: \u201cHer doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to her health issues, Tyler had been set to embark on a European tour featuring numerous gigs throughout 2026.<\/p>\n<p>She had been due to perform at the Sunshine Festival in Worcester this summer, along with a number of European dates, and was also booked to perform at Cardiff\u2019s Utilita Arena on December 17.<\/p>\n<p>But her family explained that all of Tyler\u2019s scheduled live dates for this summer were cancelled or postponed until next year, adding: \u201cThis will affect every current show until the end of August.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2026_bonnie_tyler_getty_2000x1270.jpg\" alt width=\"1904\" height=\"1270\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bonnie Tyler CREDIT: Aldara Zarraoa\/Redferns<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her final full live concert was at the O2 Shepherd\u2019s Bush Empire in London on March 19.<\/p>\n<p>Wales Secretary Jo Stevens was one of the first to pay tribute to the singer on social media following her death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo sad to hear of the death of @BonnieTOfficial. It is shocking news to wake up to you this morning and I send my love to her family at this very sad time. RIP Bonnie\u2026. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose cousin was married to Tyler, took to Instagram to express her sadness.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote: \u201cMy heart is broken with the news that our dearest Bonnie Tyler has passed away. Bonnie was married to my cousin and has been such a part of my life. We are photographed here together the night before my wedding.
