They\u2019ll also top the bill at Tramlines in Sheffield later this month, and make stops in Stoke-On-Trent and Leicester. They then dropped a surprise new live record late last year, capturing their sold-out hometown arena gig at the Co-op Live.<\/p>\n<p>The performance formed part of Courteeners\u2019 2024 UK arena tour\u00a0in support of their seventh and latest studio album,\u00a0\u2018Pink Cactus Caf\u00e9\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>NME<\/em> in April, Fray took stock of the band\u2019s legacy, survival and unfinished business, after marking their 20th anniversary with a tiny show at Manchester\u2019s Night &amp; Day Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis little gig at Night &amp; Day, it\u2019s made my year. I fucking love that place,\u201d he said. \u201cEven that being part of the launch of the \u2018best of\u2019 and the story\u2026 20 years is not to be sniffed at. This industry will kick the shit out of you, so to be still breathing and wanting to do it is a fucking miracle, if I\u2019m honest.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>When asked why Courteeners had not only stood the test of time, but also now reached Gen Z audiences, Fray responded: \u201cMaybe because we bubbled under the surface. There\u2019s that little jealousy thing when you\u2019re really young, \u2018Oh, we should be up there\u2019. No, you\u2019ll be alright, keep doing what you\u2019re doing and you\u2019ll be OK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the fact that we weren\u2019t in people\u2019s faces as much at the beginning? I write fairly simple rhymes that are a bit relatable to people? I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The frontman discussed why now was the right time for a \u2018best of\u2019 compilation, too, telling <em>NME<\/em>: \u201cI had these two new songs, but the truth is there wasn\u2019t an album there. Sometimes you have these outliers that don\u2019t fit your record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey felt really fresh to me. [Sometimes] you hold on to a song, it\u2019s lost its spark and you\u2019ve lost your respect for it. You know what? No, let\u2019s put these out. I\u2019ll be honest with you, the \u2018best of\u2019 is not that much work from our point of view. had (in various forms) for quite a while,\u201d frontman Liam Fray wrote on social media. \u201cBuzzing to finally share it with you all today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The love-struck anthem finds Fray wrapped up in a \u201c<em>new romance<\/em>\u201c, as he declares: \u201c<em>I think I\u2019m falling in love \/ But is it enough?<\/em>\u201d He adds: \u201c<em>I clumsily danced and proceeded to fall over my words \/ It was absurd \/ But I wouldn\u2019t change it for the world<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Tell me girl, can I be your plus one forever? I fucking love that place,\u201d he said. \u201cEven that being part of the launch of the \u2018best of\u2019 and the story\u2026 20 years is not to be sniffed at. This industry will kick the shit out of you, so to be still breathing and wanting to do it is a fucking miracle, if I\u2019m honest.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>When asked why Courteeners had not only stood the test of time, but also now reached Gen Z audiences, Fray responded: \u201cMaybe because we bubbled under the surface. There\u2019s that little jealousy thing when you\u2019re really young, \u2018Oh, we should be up there\u2019. No, you\u2019ll be alright, keep doing what you\u2019re doing and you\u2019ll be OK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the fact that we weren\u2019t in people\u2019s faces as much at the beginning? I write fairly simple rhymes that are a bit relatable to people? I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The frontman discussed why now was the right time for a \u2018best of\u2019 compilation, too, telling <em>NME<\/em>: \u201cI had these two new songs, but the truth is there wasn\u2019t an album there. Sometimes you have these outliers that don\u2019t fit your record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey felt really fresh to me. [Sometimes] you hold on to a song, it\u2019s lost its spark and you\u2019ve lost your respect for it. You know what? No, let\u2019s put these out.
