Part of his \u201cInterruptions\u201d series, these vinyls called attention to Israel\u2019s military actions in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Israeli military forces have deliberately targeted and killed Palestinian children,\u201d read one vinyl that contained these words against crimson scrawls recalling bloodshed. Another read, \u201cIf you can\u2019t draw the line at genocide, you probably can\u2019t draw the line at democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s important artists take risks and use private property and unconventional spaces towards political and social ends,\u201d Allen told the <em>Forward<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA Whitney spokesperson said, \u201cThe Whitney was notified of an incident of vandalism on Museum property on Friday, July 3. The unauthorized material was removed in a timely manner. The Museum maintains a zero-tolerance policy for vandalism, harassment, discrimination, or bias of any kind.\u201d (Allen told the <em>Forward<\/em> that his vinyls were \u201ctemporary vandalism, technically,\u201d in that they could be easily taken away, without damaging the surfaces underneath.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAllen\u2019s \u201cInterruptions\u201d at the Whitney loosely recall the controversy that swirled around the museum\u2019s Independent Study Program, which was temporarily paused last year after the institution canceled an ISP-run performance by Fadl Fakhouri, Noel Maghathe, and Fargo Tbakhi that, in a prior iteration, had called on audience members to leave the room if they \u201cbelieve in Israel in any incarnation.\u201d Some viewed the performance\u2019s cancelation as a form of censorship, though the museum denied that the work\u2019s political content was the issue.
