How much range are you willing to sacrifice, how much leg room and storage space, how many features, in the pursuit of that magic sticker price that won\u2019t break the bank?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/transportation\/962662\/fiats-topolino-arrives-in-the-us\">The Fiat Topolino<\/a> is basically the ultimate embodiment of those tradeoffs. For the dirt cheap price of $13,995, you get a top speed of 19mph, an all-electric range of 46 miles, and a wheelbase that\u2019s barely longer than one and a half king mattresses. In fact, the Topolino is less of a car and more of a micromobility vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Fiat isn\u2019t trying to hide that fact. In it\u2019s announcement this week about the Topolino\u2019s arrival in the US, the Stellantis-owned automaker refers to the bite-sized EV as part of \u201cthe fast-growing micromobility space.\u201d (It also cringingly calls the Topolino \u201ca little piece of la dolce vita,\u201d but that\u2019s neither here nor there.) The 5.4kWh battery can be topped up in approximately five hours when plugged into a 2.3 kW AC charger.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--block-placement _1xorkac2 _1xorkac0 duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-pullquote c39lj10\">\n<div class=\"c39lj11\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup c39lj12 _19wv7tc9\">In fact, the Topolino is less of a car and more of a micromobility vehicle<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Indeed, the Topolino has more in common with an electric quadricycle or a golf cart than it does with a Tesla Model Y. But as we\u2019ve seen with the recent launch of the Slate Truck and Amble One electric buggy, there\u2019s plenty of activity swirling around smaller, more compact, and noticeably cheaper EVs \u2014 especially as high gas prices are making more people reconsider the trucks and SUVs sitting in their driveways.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Of course, the Topolino won\u2019t be for everyone. As a restylized Citro\u00ebn Ami, it\u2019s designed primarily for short trips in an urban setting, as it\u2019s not yet legal for highway driving. And if 19mph is too slow for you, a complimentary Low Speed Vehicle conversion kit will be available later this summer to increase the Topolino\u2019s max speed to an eye-watering 25mph. Buckle up, baby.
